Peter Cowen, at 73 years old, is considered one of the top golf coaches in the world, with an impressive record of tournament victories. Based in Rotherham, England, Cowen has established Peter Cowen Golf Academies in various locations, including Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club and Emirates Golf Club. Recently, after a two-and-a-half-week trip to the US, Cowen shared his experience witnessing what he calls the ‘Bryson Effect’.

During his time in the US, Cowen observed the remarkable performance, attitude, and confidence of professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau. DeChambeau’s interactions with fans, including signing autographs, taking selfies, and engaging with them throughout the tournament, left a lasting impact. This positive energy created by DeChambeau, known as the ‘Bryson Effect,’ is seen as beneficial for the game of golf as it attracts fans of all ages and demographics.

DeChambeau recently won his second US Open, further solidifying his place as a star player in the golfing world. His success at major tournaments, coupled with his engaging personality and fan-friendly approach, has garnered attention and increased TV ratings. Despite the ongoing disputes between organizations like the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, DeChambeau’s presence continues to draw viewers and enhance the overall entertainment value of the sport.

As golf evolves into a more entertainment-focused industry, capturing the attention of fans through short-form content, social media, and engaging player personalities becomes essential. DeChambeau’s popularity and captivating performances showcase the appeal of golf as a spectator sport. Amidst the challenges of keeping viewers engaged with golf events on TV, the excitement generated by players like DeChambeau adds a new dimension to the game’s appeal.

While DeChambeau’s success and fan engagement are evident on the professional circuit, there are still concerns about the visibility and accessibility of golf tournaments for viewers. Some players, like Patrick Reed, Thomas Pieters, and Lee Westwood, are competing in various events, but the confusion surrounding tournament schedules and player participation can hinder fans’ ability to follow the sport closely. Clarity and organization within the golfing community are crucial for the continued growth and success of the game.

Looking ahead, the anticipation for DeChambeau’s next Major appearance at the Open at Royal Troon is high. As one of the top players in the world, his performance and presence are eagerly awaited by fans and enthusiasts alike. With Cowen’s keen insight and experience as a respected golf coach, the future of the game looks promising, provided that the necessary steps are taken to address the challenges and uncertainties faced by players, organizers, and viewers in the golfing world.
