The National Defence College (NDC) recently hosted two important lectures as part of its 12th course. The first lecture was given by GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi, who spoke about the implications of global competition on GCC states, the impact of global crises on the economy and investments of GCC states, and the role of the GCC in resolving global conflicts and crises. Al Budaiwi also discussed the implications to food security and the future aspirations of GCC states. The second lecture was delivered by Dr. Salman Al Farsi, Secretary General of the Indian Ocean Rim Association, who spoke about the Association’s role in achieving economic cooperation between member states and global economic blocs.

During his lecture, Al Budaiwi emphasized the importance of the GCC in addressing global challenges and conflicts. He also highlighted the role of the GCC in promoting economic cooperation and security within the region. Al Budaiwi’s lecture provided valuable insights into the current state of affairs in the Gulf region and shed light on the future aspirations of GCC states. The lecture was attended by senior officers from the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF) and military and security units, as well as government officials and NDC representatives.

In his lecture, Dr. Salman Al Farsi focused on the role of the Indian Ocean Rim Association in enhancing economic cooperation among member states and global economic blocs. He underscored the Association’s role in liberalizing trade exchange and accelerating the flow of goods, services, investments, and technology among member states. Dr. Salman also highlighted the significance of the Association in fostering dialogue between member states on economic, regional, and international issues. The lecture provided valuable insights into the Association’s efforts to promote joint investment and maximize common gains from joint capabilities and complementary roles.

The lectures hosted by the NDC provided attendees with a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the GCC and Indian Ocean Rim Association. The insights shared by Al Budaiwi and Dr. Salman highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in addressing global challenges and promoting economic development. The lectures also emphasized the role of dialogue and collaboration in advancing the interests of member states and enhancing their competitiveness on a global scale. The NDC’s 12th course curriculum continues to offer valuable insights into strategic and defense studies that are essential for shaping the future of the region.
