The Ministry of Works in Bahrain has intensified its efforts to maintain major roads and bridges in preparation for the new academic year, which is set to begin on September 4th. The ministry aims to complete a significant portion of the maintenance work before the start of the school year, with remaining work scheduled to be carried out during the night in September to avoid traffic congestion. Several new road closures have been announced on major streets, including partial closures on the Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway, Shaikh Isa bin Salman Highway, and Janabiya Avenue, as well as a complete closure of Shaikh Hamad Avenue in Muharraq.

The maintenance operation, which began in July, is one of the largest simultaneous road maintenance operations in the Kingdom’s history. It covers major roads, bridges, and intersections across the country, including five bridges and five major roads. The ministry has urged road users to utilise alternative routes and follow traffic diversions in areas undergoing maintenance to avoid congestion, emphasizing that the maintenance work is part of a comprehensive plan to maintain the road network and ensure its sustainability.

The ministry’s maintenance plan includes regular preventive maintenance of key elements to maintain safety and achieve the overall vision of providing high-quality, safe roads. The maintenance aims to enhance road safety on bridges and intersections, preserve the road network, ensure its sustainability, and avoid the need for costly new road construction. By setting a lifespan for each road and conducting cost-effective maintenance instead of complete reconstruction, the ministry is working towards ensuring the longevity and safety of Bahrain’s roads.

It is clear that the Ministry of Works is committed to ensuring the safety and functionality of Bahrain’s road network through proactive and comprehensive maintenance efforts. By prioritizing the completion of maintenance work before the start of the new academic year, the ministry is demonstrating its dedication to minimizing disruptions for road users. The announcement of road closures on major streets and the implementation of traffic diversions indicate a strategic approach to managing the maintenance operations and reducing congestion during peak traffic hours.

The ministry’s focus on preventive maintenance and sustainability aligns with best practices in road infrastructure management, ensuring the long-term safety and usability of Bahrain’s roads. By implementing these measures, the ministry is not only addressing immediate maintenance needs but also setting a foundation for efficient and cost-effective road maintenance in the future. This comprehensive approach to road maintenance is essential for preserving the integrity of Bahrain’s road network and enhancing overall road safety for all users.

In conclusion, the Ministry of Works in Bahrain’s intensive road maintenance efforts are a key component of ensuring the ongoing safety and functionality of the country’s road network. By prioritizing maintenance work before the start of the new academic year and implementing strategic road closures and diversions, the ministry is working towards minimizing disruptions and enhancing road safety for all users. Through a focus on preventive maintenance and sustainability, the ministry is setting a strong foundation for efficient and cost-effective road maintenance in the future, ultimately contributing to the overall quality and safety of Bahrain’s roads.
