The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) Board recently held its 14th periodic meeting, chaired by Minister of Labour Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, to discuss various initiatives and achievements. The board congratulated Bahrain on achieving Tier 1 status in the US State Department’s report for the seventh consecutive year, highlighting the collaborative efforts of LMRA with other government entities in combating human trafficking and maintaining Bahrain’s international reputation.

The board commended LMRA for its efforts in developing the work environment in Bahrain, which contributes to implementing government programmes and plans. They also praised the organization for its achievements in implementing the National Labour Market Plan (2023-2026) and programs that support the private sector as the main engine of growth, creating quality opportunities for citizens and advancing training and skill development to make Bahrainis the preferred choice for employment.

Nibras Mohammed Talib, the CEO of LMRA, presented a report on the organization’s strategic goals and indicators for 2024, as well as priority projects currently being implemented. He highlighted developments in the Wage Protection System in collaboration with the private sector, and initiatives to improve procedures and services for business owners to enhance efficiency and work quality.

In the quarterly activity report, the CEO noted a significant increase in inspection campaigns and visits, with ongoing coordination with government entities to monitor compliance with laws and regulations. There was a nearly 26% increase in campaigns and inspections from the beginning of the year until June 20, 2024, compared to the same period in 2023. Employer compliance rates also rose to 97.5%, indicating successful enforcement of laws and regulations.

Overall, the LMRA Board and CEO are focused on maintaining Bahrain’s leading international, economic, and investment reputation through continuous follow-up and development. The organization’s efforts in combating human trafficking, implementing the National Labour Market Plan, and supporting the private sector’s growth are key priorities. With ongoing inspection campaigns and efforts to improve services for business owners, LMRA is committed to ensuring a productive and competitive labour market in Bahrain.
