The Dhofar Khareef season in Oman is becoming a major driver of tourism and economic growth in the region. With its beautiful natural landscapes and distinctive monsoon climate, Dhofar has been attracting a growing number of visitors in recent years. This surge in tourists has led to a significant increase in hotel construction and the development of tourist resorts, with the number of hotel rooms expected to reach 7,000 this year. The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is actively working on enhancing the visitor experience through various initiatives, such as introducing new exhibitions at Al Baleed Archaeological Park and developing tourist sites like Al Baleed Beach.

The growth of the tourism sector in Dhofar Governorate is not only benefiting the hospitality industry but is also positively impacting other economic sectors in the region. Efforts are underway to extend the tourism season beyond Khareef by introducing initiatives like the “Sarb” season and developing year-round tourist destinations. The Ministry is also committed to sustainable tourism practices, with plans to update the Frankincense Land Museum and develop the Jabal Samhan public breathing space. By focusing on sustainable development, the region aims to preserve its natural environment while also providing memorable experiences for visitors.

Despite the positive outlook for the tourism sector in Dhofar, the region faces challenges such as managing the increased tourist influx and preserving its natural environment. However, with a strategic approach and the implementation of sustainable development plans, Dhofar has the potential to become a world-class tourist destination. The Ministry is working on addressing these challenges by implementing measures to control the number of tourists and initiatives to protect the environment. By promoting responsible tourism practices and sustainable development, Dhofar can ensure that its tourism sector continues to thrive while conserving its natural resources for future generations.
