The Indian Mango Festival starts at Souq Waqif

The Indian Mango Festival, also known as the Indian Hamba, opened at Souq Waqif in Doha yesterday with an impressive display of mangoes from different regions of India. The festival, which will run for ten days from May 30 to June 8, features 60 companies with 100 outlets, showcasing a wide variety of mangoes including Alphonso, Kesar, Banganapalli, and more. This event aims to attract mango enthusiasts and cultural aficionados from across Qatar.

The opening ceremony of the festival was attended by distinguished guests including H E Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhroo, Ambassador of India to Qatar H E Vipul, and Managing Director of Private Engineering Office H E Nasser Rashid Al Naimi. Ambassador Vipul highlighted the strong connection between India and Qatar through food, particularly mangoes. He mentioned that mangoes are a special summer treat that connects the two countries and expressed his delight in seeing a large number of visitors at the festival on the first day.

The festival, organized by Souq Waqif and the Embassy of India, in collaboration with the Indian community and business establishments in Qatar, offers a variety of mango products such as pickles, Rasmalai (mango dessert), and more. General Supervisor of the Hamba Mango Festival, Khalid Saif Al Suwaidi, emphasized the popularity of mangoes and their products, stating that the festival aims to promote healthy competition among traders during the mango season. With over 60 companies participating and 100 outlets, the festival is expected to attract a large number of visitors in the coming days.

Visitors to Souq Waqif can enjoy a unique culinary experience by exploring the different flavors and aromas of Indian mangoes. In addition to tasting fresh mangoes, attendees can also indulge in traditional mango dishes, jams, juice, and ice creams, providing a glimpse of Indian culture in the heart of Doha. The festival offers a vibrant and immersive experience for families and food lovers, making it a must-visit event in the city.
