Organisations worldwide are increasingly turning to Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve resource allocation and boost employee engagement, according to a recent report by KPMG. The Future of Work report, based on a survey of over 4,000 employees in leading markets, reveals that a majority of employees are satisfied with the productivity tools at their disposal and view technology as having a positive impact on their jobs. The research also shows that a significant percentage of employers have adopted new technologies in the past three years, with employees expecting further enhancements in productivity over the next three years.

Despite the overall optimism, there are concerns about the potential overload of new technology on employees and their readiness to fully utilize it. Marketa Simkova, partner at KPMG Lower Gulf, emphasizes the importance of combining human and machine capabilities in the digital workplace. With the rise of AI, organisations need to empower their workforce with the necessary tools to adapt to technological changes and foster a productive work environment.

The report highlights the impact of the always-on nature of modern work environments on employee well-being and mental health. Job insecurity also looms as a threat, with a significant portion of employees expressing concerns that AI and other technologies could make their jobs obsolete. Employers need to address these fears with effective communication and ensure that their workforce is prepared for the future, where humans and AI will collaborate in new ways. Leveraging AI in HR technology can streamline processes and improve the overall employee experience.

As the UAE accelerates its digital transformation efforts, organisations must prioritize the well-being and development of their workforce. The human element remains crucial in navigating the digital work landscape, and companies need to be transparent about how technology will impact their employees. This includes providing opportunities for upskilling and reskilling to ensure that employees can thrive in an AI-augmented work environment. By embracing AI strategically and fostering a culture of continuous learning and adaptation, organisations can enhance productivity and employee engagement in the evolving digital era.

In conclusion, the adoption of AI in the workplace presents both opportunities and challenges for organisations and their employees. While AI can streamline processes and enhance productivity, it also brings concerns about job security and mental well-being. Employers must prioritize effective communication and skills development to empower their workforce in the face of rapid technological changes. By focusing on human-machine collaboration, upskilling initiatives, and creating a supportive work culture, organisations can leverage AI to drive innovation and create a more engaging work environment for their employees. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, businesses that invest in their human capital and embrace AI technology strategically will be better positioned to succeed in the future of work.
