The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar in Oman has reported a significant increase in the production of Al Jabal Al Akhdar roses during the current agricultural season in 2024. The quantity of roses produced at the Business Centre and Incubators reached approximately 20 tonnes, which is nine tonnes more than the previous season in 2023. This increase in production has resulted in an estimated value of OMR200,000. Issam bin Saif Al-Zakwani, a senior executive at the center, highlighted the various uses of rose water, including as a flavor in food and beverages, in cosmetics such as creams, and in the manufacturing of aromatic soap. The remains of rose petals are also used in the production of soap and fertilizers, contributing to the fertility of agricultural lands.
The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority is actively supporting craftsmen and entrepreneurs in the region by organizing training workshops in various fields, such as the manufacture of rose water and essential oils like rose oil and frankincense oil. The Business Centre and Incubators also encourage business owners to launch their projects and products. The rose farm at the center boasts over 2,700 trees of different varieties, further contributing to the local economy.
