The farms of Jabal Al Akhdar yield 20 tonnes of roses.

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar in Oman has reported a significant increase in the production of Al Jabal Al Akhdar roses during the current agricultural season in 2024. The quantity of roses produced at the Business Centre and Incubators reached approximately 20 tonnes, which is nine tonnes more than the previous season in 2023. This increase in production has resulted in an estimated value of OMR200,000. Issam bin Saif Al-Zakwani, a senior executive at the center, highlighted the various uses of rose water, including as a flavor in food and beverages, in cosmetics such as creams, and in the manufacturing of aromatic soap. The remains of rose petals are also used in the production of soap and fertilizers, contributing to the fertility of agricultural lands.

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority is actively supporting craftsmen and entrepreneurs in the region by organizing training workshops in various fields, such as the manufacture of rose water and essential oils like rose oil and frankincense oil. The Business Centre and Incubators also encourage business owners to launch their projects and products. The center includes a training hall for distilling aromatic plants and producing essential oils, as well as a department for training entrepreneurs and craftsmen. Additionally, the Omani Crafts House is available to display the center’s and craftsmen’s products, which include oils, aromatics, textiles, pottery, silver, and more. The rose farm at the center boasts over 2,700 trees of different varieties, further contributing to the local economy.

In collaboration with various parties, the Business Centre and Incubators in Jabal Al Akhdar have provided business opportunities that align with current trends to boost the local and foreign economy. The center’s efforts to support craftsmen and entrepreneurs in the region have resulted in the growth of the rose production industry and the introduction of new products in various sectors. By encouraging the production of rose water, essential oils, and other rose-based products, the center is playing a vital role in diversifying the local economy and promoting sustainable entrepreneurship. The training workshops organized by the center are equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the competitive market, while also fostering creativity and innovation in the industry.

The Business Centre and Incubators in Jabal Al Akhdar serve as a hub for promoting local craftsmanship and entrepreneurship, providing a platform for showcasing the region’s unique products to a wider audience. The diverse range of products available at the Omani Crafts House highlights the rich cultural heritage of the region and provides a market for artisans to showcase their talents. The center’s focus on sustainability and innovation is evident in its support for the production of environmentally friendly products such as organic fertilizers and natural cosmetics. By nurturing local talent and promoting traditional craftsmanship, the center is contributing to the preservation of cultural heritage and the economic development of the region.
