The Bahrain Coast Guard recently announced the seizure of 1,661 kilograms of illegally caught fish, shrimp, and other marine species over a seven-month period from January to July 2024. This crackdown was a result of 820 maritime violations, including illegal fishing practices and the use of unlicensed vessels. The offenses ranged from capturing juvenile fish and shrimp to using prohibited floating trawling nets and trespassing into protected marine zones.

In addition to enforcing fishing laws, the Coast Guard patrols also engaged in rescue missions, saving 472 individuals and assisting 318 distressed vessels during the same period. The authorities have urged fishermen and seafarers to comply with regulations and cooperate with inspections to avoid penalties. Violators could face a year of imprisonment and fines as high as BHD 2,000 for breaking maritime laws.

The Coast Guard has heightened its vigilance in enforcing Article 17 of Decree-Law No. 32 of 2020, which governs the registration, safety, and monitoring of small vessels in Bahraini waters. This move aims to curb illegal fishing activities and protect marine life. The authorities are committed to cracking down on illegal practices to ensure the sustainability of marine resources and protect the marine ecosystem in Bahrain.

The seizure of illegally caught fish and marine species reflects the commitment of the Coast Guard to combat maritime violations effectively. By cracking down on illegal fishing practices, the authorities aim to protect marine biodiversity and ensure the sustainability of fish stocks in Bahraini waters. The Coast Guard’s efforts to enforce fishing laws and regulations are essential to maintaining a balance between economic activities and environmental conservation in the region.

Fishermen and seafarers play a crucial role in preserving marine resources by adhering to fishing regulations and cooperating with authorities. The Coast Guard’s appeal to comply with maritime laws is essential to protect Bahrain’s marine environment and ensure the long-term health of its fisheries. By working together with fishermen and seafarers, the authorities can effectively combat illegal fishing practices and safeguard the marine ecosystem for future generations.

The Coast Guard’s proactive approach in enforcing maritime laws demonstrates the government’s commitment to sustainable fishing practices and environmental conservation in Bahrain. By cracking down on illegal fishing activities and supporting distressed vessels, the authorities aim to promote responsible fishing practices and protect marine biodiversity. The Coast Guard’s efforts to monitor small vessels and enforce fishing regulations play a vital role in ensuring the preservation of Bahrain’s marine resources for years to come.
