The Chairman of Qatar Tourism, H E Saad bin Ali Al Kharji, recently spoke at the Shura Council’s regular weekly session about the efforts being made to attract investments to the tourism sector in Qatar. He highlighted the incentives and facilitations being granted to both local and international investors, as well as the steps being taken to streamline procedures in order to draw more investments. The strategic plan for tourism 2024-2030 was discussed, along with policies to revitalize the sector, plans to attract investments, and the challenges facing these efforts.

Al Kharji emphasized the importance of strengthening the partnership between the public and private sectors, facilitating investment procedures, and creating a legislative environment that encourages growth and investment in the tourism sector. He also highlighted the focus on improving visitors’ experience by providing high-quality services, developing tourist facilities, enhancing security and safety, and adopting innovation and technology to enhance efficiency. Target groups for tourism were mentioned, including cultural, sporting, familial, recreational, business, conferences, medical, and environmental tourism.

The Speaker of the Shura Council welcomed the efforts to advance the tourism sector and encourage investment in order to fulfill the goals of national development and Qatar National Vision 2030. He emphasized the importance of economic development in the national vision, noting that tourism is a key sector for enhancing economic diversification efforts. The Qatar National Tourism Sector Strategy 2030 aims to cement Qatar’s position as a global tourist destination by capitalizing on the country’s cultural and geographical diversity.

Despite the progress made in advancing the tourism sector, Al Kharji acknowledged that there are challenges to overcome, such as competition with other tourism destinations, maintaining a balance between tourism development and conservation of the environment and cultural heritage, and providing qualified talents for sustainable growth. He reassured the Shura Council members that Qatar Tourism is committed to providing a unique tourism experience that respects Islamic values and promotes Qatari traditions and customs. Members of the Council commended the efforts being made to advance the tourism sector in the country.
