Trump International Golf Club’s Dominic Morton emerged as the winner of the 54-hole EGF Men’s Division at the 2023-2024 Order of Merit Championship. Morton, with a +3 handicap, shot a level-par 72 in the final round, including two birdies on the front nine and a birdie on the 54th hole in the back nine. In a playoff against Viktor Kofod Olsen, Morton secured the victory with a birdie, marking his first EGF WAGR tournament win. The 18-year-old golfer is set to attend Odessa University, Texas, on a golf scholarship, making this win even more significant.

Meanwhile, in the Ladies Division, Jamie Camero from The Els Club, along with Intissar Rich from EGF, tied on 223. After a playoff, Jamie emerged as the winner. Despite facing challenges balancing golf tournaments, exams, and revision, Jamie managed to clinch the victory. She expressed satisfaction with her performance, especially with an upcoming biology A-level exam, emphasizing the importance of achieving success in both academics and sports. The event also hosted other categories like Junior Boy’s Gross, Junior Boy’s Net, Junior Girls’ Gross, and Junior Girls’ Net, adding an exciting dynamic to the championship.

With the Men’s and Ladies 54-hole events being WAGR qualifiers supported by the R&A, the competition was intense and rewarding for the participants. Morton, Olsen, Craig, and Dunn showcased their skills in the Men’s Division, with Morton ultimately winning the title on the first playoff hole. Similarly, Camero, Rich, and Matieu displayed remarkable performances in the Ladies Division, with Camero emerging victorious after a gripping playoff. The Junior categories also saw talented players like Astrom, Kim, Bianchi, and Zbiri showcasing their potential in golf.

The EGF Order of Merit points were distributed based on the field size, with this year’s Order of Merit Championship being a significant addition to the season-long Order of Merits. The competition not only highlighted the skills of the participants but also provided a platform for young talents to excel in the sport. With a focus on promoting golf and encouraging participation from all levels, the EGF continues to organize events that showcase the talent and dedication of golfers in the region. The championship served as a culmination of the season, bringing together top players and enthusiasts for a memorable and competitive event.

As a platform for aspiring golfers to test their skills and compete at a high level, the EGF Order of Merit Championship offered a challenging yet rewarding experience for all participants. The success of the event underscored the dedication and passion of golfers like Morton and Camero, who strive for excellence both on the course and in their academic pursuits. With a focus on promoting the sport and nurturing talent, events like the Order of Merit Championship play a crucial role in building a vibrant golfing community in the region.
