Doha, Qatar – The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced a temporary full closure of the exit from Umm Al Houl Interchange impacting traffic flow to Hamad Port Road. This road closure, scheduled to begin at midnight on Thursday, November 27, 2025, and last until 5:00 AM on Sunday, November 30, 2025, is intended to facilitate essential maintenance work on the interchange. Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes during this period to avoid significant delays.

The closure specifically affects traffic originating from Mesaieed Road and intending to travel towards Hamad Port Road. Ashghal has stated that all traffic will be diverted, and road users should be prepared for changes in their usual commutes. This temporary disruption is part of ongoing efforts to improve Qatar’s infrastructure and ensure the long-term safety and efficiency of its roadways.

Understanding the Umm Al Houl Interchange Road Closure

The Umm Al Houl Interchange is a critical junction connecting Mesaieed Road with Hamad Port Road, serving a substantial volume of both commercial and passenger traffic. Its strategic location makes it vital for the movement of goods to and from Hamad Port, one of the fastest-growing commercial hubs in the Middle East. Therefore, any interruption to traffic flow through this interchange has the potential to cause widespread disruption.

Ashghal has not detailed the specific nature of the maintenance work necessitating the road closure. However, such closures often involve repairs to the road surface, bridge supports, or the interchange’s signaling and lighting systems. Regular maintenance is crucial for preventing more extensive and disruptive repairs in the future, according to infrastructure experts.

Impact on Logistics and Commuting

The closure is expected to primarily affect logistics companies and individuals commuting to and from the industrial areas and Hamad Port. Increased traffic on alternative routes, such as Al Wakrah Road, is anticipated. Businesses relying on timely deliveries to and from the port may need to adjust their schedules or explore alternative transportation methods.

Commuters are strongly encouraged to follow Ashghal’s guidance and utilize the designated diversions. Adhering to posted speed limits within the diversion zones is also essential for safety. Real-time traffic updates will likely be available through Ashghal’s social media channels and navigation apps like Waze and Google Maps, providing drivers with the most current information.

Diversion Routes and Traffic Management

Ashghal has indicated that clearly marked diversion routes will be in place to guide traffic around the closed section of the interchange. While the exact details of these routes haven’t been fully publicized, drivers should anticipate being directed onto parallel roadways. Effective traffic management will be key to minimizing congestion during the closure.

The timing of the closure, from midnight to 5:00 AM, suggests Ashghal aims to minimize disruption during peak traffic hours. However, even during these off-peak times, the diversion is expected to add travel time for affected motorists. The authority is likely coordinating with the Ministry of Interior to ensure adequate traffic policing and support during the maintenance period. This road work is a common occurrence as Qatar continues to develop its infrastructure.

The closure also comes as Qatar prepares for various events and continues to experience growth in its population and economic activity. Maintaining a robust and well-maintained road network is therefore a high priority. This proactive approach to infrastructure maintenance aims to support continued economic development and improve the quality of life for residents.

Looking ahead, Ashghal will likely monitor traffic flow closely during the closure to assess the effectiveness of the diversion routes. The completion of the maintenance work by 5:00 AM on November 30th is the stated goal, but unforeseen circumstances could potentially extend the duration. Road users should continue to check for updates from Ashghal regarding the status of the interchange and any potential changes to the schedule.

Ashghal’s website is the primary source for official information. The Ministry of Transport also provides updates on major infrastructure projects. The Peninsula Qatar is a reliable source for local news.
