Doha, Qatar – The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced a temporary full road closure impacting traffic flow in the Al Rayyan area. Starting Wednesday, November 26, 2024, and continuing until Friday, November 28, 2025, vehicles traveling from Fahad Bin Jassim Al Thani Street towards Jasim Bin Hamad Street will be diverted due to ongoing infrastructure improvements. This road closure is expected to affect commuters during peak evening and overnight hours.

The closure will be in effect daily from 4:00 PM to 4:00 AM. Ashghal is implementing this measure to facilitate the second phase of road reinstatement works in the area, aiming to improve the overall quality and safety of the transportation network. Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes and allow for extra travel time during the specified period.

Understanding the Fahad Bin Jassim Street Road Closure

The extended duration of this road closure – spanning over a year – is notable and reflects the scope of the road reinstatement works being undertaken. According to Ashghal, the project involves comprehensive repairs and upgrades to the roadway, potentially including subsurface infrastructure improvements. This proactive approach aims to prevent future disruptions and ensure long-term road durability.

Impact on Traffic and Commuters

The closure primarily affects traffic heading from Fahad Bin Jassim Al Thani Street towards Jasim Bin Hamad Street. Ashghal has indicated that clearly marked diversion routes will be available to guide drivers around the affected area. However, increased congestion on alternative routes is anticipated, particularly during rush hour.

Commuters are strongly encouraged to utilize navigation apps and real-time traffic updates to identify the most efficient routes. Additionally, adhering to posted speed limits within the detour zones is crucial for maintaining safety. The traffic diversion is designed to minimize disruption, but patience and careful driving are essential.

Details of the Road Reinstatement Project

Ashghal has not released detailed specifics regarding the nature of the road reinstatement works. However, similar projects in the past have involved repairs to damaged road surfaces, upgrades to drainage systems, and improvements to street lighting. These enhancements contribute to a more reliable and safer transportation infrastructure for residents and visitors.

The timing of the closure, consistently from 4:00 PM to 4:00 AM, suggests that Ashghal is attempting to minimize impact during peak daytime traffic. This strategy aims to reduce congestion and inconvenience for the majority of commuters. Meanwhile, the project is likely to involve heavy machinery and extensive construction activities, necessitating the full closure for safety reasons.

Related infrastructure projects in the Al Rayyan area, such as the ongoing development of the Al Rayyan Stadium and surrounding facilities, may contribute to overall road maintenance needs. The coordinated approach to infrastructure improvements aims to create a more integrated and efficient transportation system.

In contrast to shorter, intermittent closures, this extended road closure allows for more substantial and comprehensive work to be completed. This approach, while initially disruptive, can ultimately lead to a more durable and reliable roadway. The long-term benefits of improved infrastructure often outweigh the short-term inconvenience.

Looking ahead, Ashghal has not provided a specific timeline for the completion of Phase 2 of the road reinstatement works within the overall November 2025 timeframe. Motorists should continue to monitor Ashghal’s official channels for updates and potential adjustments to the closure schedule. The success of the project will depend on effective traffic management and continued communication with the public.

Further announcements regarding potential phased reopenings or changes to the traffic management plan are expected as the project progresses. It remains to be seen whether any unforeseen challenges will arise that could impact the completion date.
