West Indies sent a strong message to their opponents in the T20 World Cup by defeating Afghanistan in their final group game. Nicholas Pooran’s outstanding knock of 98, including eight sixes, led the West Indies to a 104-run victory. The team’s dominant performance showcased their potential to compete with the top teams in the Super Eights stage. Despite being overshadowed by powerhouse teams like Australia, India, England, and South Africa, the West Indies have proven that they are a force to be reckoned with in the tournament.

The combination of powerful batters, explosive all-rounders, and a skilled left-arm spinner, Akeal Hosein, has made the West Indies a formidable opponent. With Pooran’s return to form, the team is confident heading into their Super Eights matchup against defending champions England. Pooran’s exceptional performance against Afghanistan, where he was run out attempting a second run in the final over, contributed to West Indies’ highest score of 218 for five in the competition. This victory secured their spot in the Super Eight round, alongside Afghanistan.

West Indies put on a masterclass batting display against Afghanistan, with Pooran’s partnership with Johnson Charles setting the tone for the innings. Pooran’s unstoppable hitting, including six fours and eight sixes, demonstrated his exceptional skill and ability to dominate both pacers and spinners. Meanwhile, Afghanistan struggled with their bowling attack as the West Indies cruised to a total of 218. In response, Afghanistan could only manage 114 runs, with the West Indies bowlers maintaining control throughout the match.

Looking ahead to the Super Eights, West Indies captain Rovman Powell emphasized the team’s focus on utilizing the home conditions to their advantage. The team aims to secure their third T20 World Cup title and become the first team to achieve this feat. Powell acknowledged the transformation of the team from being ranked 8th or 9th in the world to now being considered a strong contender, instilling confidence in fans and players alike. The upcoming match against England will be a crucial test for the West Indies as they seek to continue their winning streak in the tournament.

As the T20 World Cup progresses, the competition is heating up, with teams gearing up for the Super Eight stage. Key matchups, including South Africa vs. USA and West Indies vs. England, are set to take place in the coming days.
