Chinese tennis player Zheng Qinwen secured a hard-fought victory over American wildcard Amanda Anisimova at the U.S. Open, advancing to the second round. Overcoming early serving struggles, Zheng won 73% of her first-serve points and converted six break-point opportunities during the match that lasted two hours and 20 minutes. Despite being broken four times, Zheng’s resilience and strategic play allowed her to clinch the win.

Anisimova initially took a commanding 5-1 lead in the first set, but Zheng fought back to level the score, saving three set points in the process. However, Anisimova managed to break Zheng for a third time, ultimately winning the first set. In the second set, Zheng regained her composure and broke Anisimova, seizing control of the match. Throughout the set, Zheng’s strong serving and strategic play helped her secure the win, leveling the match at one set apiece.

The decider saw Zheng take an early 3-0 lead with a double break, while Anisimova struggled with injuries to her foot and right hand. Despite her best efforts, Anisimova was unable to stage a comeback, and Zheng sealed the victory to advance to the next round. Zheng’s next opponent will be Russia’s Erika Andreeva, setting the stage for an exciting match-up at the U.S. Open.

With her impressive performance against Anisimova, Zheng has demonstrated her resilience and skill on the court, showcasing her potential to make a deep run in the tournament. As a former Olympic champion, Zheng’s experience and competitive spirit make her a formidable opponent for any player. Her ability to adapt to challenging situations and capitalize on opportunities bodes well for her future success at the U.S. Open and beyond.

As Zheng prepares to face Andreeva in the next round, fans and spectators can expect an exciting match between two talented players. Zheng’s relentless determination and strategic play, combined with Andreeva’s skills and competitive spirit, promise a thrilling encounter on the court. With both players vying for a spot in the later stages of the tournament, the upcoming match is sure to be a highlight of the U.S. Open, showcasing the best of women’s tennis at a prestigious event.
