The 17th edition of the UEFA European Championships, Euro 2024, is set to kick off in Munich, with football fans worldwide eagerly anticipating who will lift the trophy this year. Expert predictions have started pouring in, with former players and commentators like Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand backing England to have a strong showing in the tournament. Meanwhile, other experts like Jamie Carragher and Jose Mourinho are predicting a win for France and Portugal, respectively.

In addition to human predictions, supercomputers are also getting in on the action. Opta Analyst, a platform that provides data-driven insights, has named England as the favorites to win Euro 2024, with a 19.9% chance of victory. France follows closely behind, with a 19.1% chance according to the Opta Supercomputer’s calculations. Both teams have strong probabilities of reaching the later stages of the tournament, with England leading the list in terms of favorable odds.

Former champions France also have a solid chance of winning the tournament, with a well-balanced squad led by star player Kylian Mbappe. The French team has a 69% probability of making it to the quarter-finals and a 30.4% likelihood of reaching the final. Germany, the host nation, is also expected to put up a tough fight, with a 58.4% chance of reaching the quarter-finals according to the supercomputer’s predictions.

Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Italy, and Belgium are also listed as teams with notable probabilities of advancing far in the tournament, according to Opta’s predictions. Spain has a 9.6% chance of becoming champions, while Portugal, the Netherlands, Italy, and Belgium all have varying probabilities of reaching the final and winning the title.

The Opta supercomputer makes its predictions based on advanced analytics systems that take into account the current form of each team, historical head-to-head records, and simulates the remaining fixtures multiple times to provide the most accurate predictions possible. While predictions can always go wrong, the 24 teams that have qualified for Euro 2024 are all strong contenders, and the world awaits to see if the experts’ predictions will come true or if a dark horse team will surprise everyone. The answer will be revealed on July 14 when the tournament concludes.
