Jon Rahm, a member of the Legion XIII, recently clinched victory in the LIV Golf Chicago tournament by finishing with a four-under 66. This win also secured him the season points title and an impressive $18 million bonus. Rahm displayed exceptional composure throughout the event, even when faced with some missed opportunities on the back nine. Despite some setbacks, he managed to maintain a three-shot lead going into the final hole at the Bolingbrook Golf Course.
This victory marked Rahm’s second win in the LIV Golf league, with his previous title coming in England. He narrowly missed out on another win in a playoff against Brooks Koepka. The only player who could have challenged Rahm for the season title was Joaquin Niemann, a two-time winner at the start of the season. Niemann put up a good fight, shooting a 66, but ultimately fell short, finishing tied for second with Sergio Garcia, who shot a 68.
Feeling nervous on the practice range, Rahm was determined to put on a good show and was delighted with his bogey-free performance over the weekend. His impeccable 12-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole made the final hole much easier for him. The Crushers team emerged victorious in the team event, led by Dubai’s Anirban Lahiri, with Rahm and Lahiri now set to compete in the upcoming Team Championship in Dallas to close out the third season.
Rahm’s win at LIV Golf Chicago earned him $4 million from the tournament itself, in addition to the $18 million for capturing the season title. Lahiri also performed well, tying for sixth place with a strong showing throughout the tournament. In the season-ending Individual Standings, Lahiri finished in 16th place, one spot ahead of Adrian Meronk. The final event of the LIV Golf season will be the Team Championship held in Dallas, showcasing the top teams and players from the league.
Looking ahead to the Team Championship at Maridoe GC in Dallas, the Crushers GC currently lead the team standings, followed by Legion XIII, Ripper GC, and Smash GC. The top four teams receive byes for the first round, with a total of 12 teams seeded for the event.
