Pakistan cricketer Rizwan admits team deserving criticism for poor T20 WC performance

Pakistan’s wicketkeeper Mohammed Rizwan recently spoke out about his team’s disappointing performance in the ICC T20 World Cup held in West Indies and the USA. He acknowledged that the team deserved the criticism they received and stated that PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi has the authority to make decisions about the team’s composition. Pakistan, after suffering defeats at the hands of USA and India, managed to win their last match against Ireland in the Group Stage.

Placed in Group A, Pakistan faced setbacks against the hosts, USA, and rivals India, before rallying to win against Canada and Ireland. Despite these victories, the team’s poor performance led to their elimination from the tournament due to net run rate. Rizwan expressed disappointment over the team’s failure to deliver as per expectations and mentioned that criticism is a part of the game. He compared the team’s situation to an ill person needing an operation, indicating that changes may be necessary.

Rizwan’s personal performance in the T20 World Cup was also lacking, with only 110 runs scored in four innings at an average of 36.66. His opening partner and team captain, Babar Azam, also struggled with the bat, managing just 122 runs in four games. The duo’s inability to provide significant contributions impacted Pakistan’s overall performance in the tournament. Rizwan emphasized the importance of accepting criticism and learning from the team’s mistakes to improve in future competitions.

Moving forward, Rizwan highlighted the need for introspection and analysis to identify the reasons behind Pakistan’s poor showing in the T20 World Cup. He stressed the role of the PCB chief in making decisions about the team’s future composition and expressed confidence in the chairman’s ability to steer the team in the right direction. The tournament served as a wake-up call for the team, prompting them to reevaluate their strategies and work on their weaknesses to bounce back stronger in upcoming events.
