Al Ain, the UAE club, is set to defend their continental title against Al Sadd from Qatar in the revamped Asian Champions League Elite. The Emirati club, managed by Hernan Crespo, is looking to start their season strong against Al Sadd, despite their previous struggles against Qatari teams on the continental stage. Al Sadd, on the other hand, will bring their experience and past record into the match, having faced difficulties in their domestic league recently.

The new format of the Asian Champions League Elite offers a higher prize pool and a more competitive structure, with a field of 24 participants competing for a whopping $12 million prize. The group phase has been replaced by a Swiss League system, with teams split into east and west Asian leagues playing eight group games each. The top eight finishers from each league will advance to the knockout rounds in March, culminating in a centralized phase in Saudi Arabia.

Al Ain, the reigning champions, will face off against clubs like Al-Nassr, Al Hilal, Al Ahli, Al Gharafa, and others during the league phase. With the retention of key players like Soufiane Rahimi, who was instrumental in their success last season, Al Ain aims to become only the fifth club to retain the prestigious title. The competition will see clubs from various countries in Asia battling it out for supremacy in the continent.

Yokohama F Marinos, another formidable side, will begin their campaign against Gwangju FC in the eastern half of the draw. Despite a coaching change with Harry Kewell leaving his position, Marinos are strong contenders with former champions Ulsan HD and Pohang Steelers also in the mix. The eastern half of the draw includes clubs from South Korea, China, and Japan, making it a competitive and exciting group of teams vying for glory in the tournament.

The revamped Asian Champions League Elite promises a high level of competition and excitement as clubs from across Asia compete for the coveted title and a substantial prize pool. With experienced coaches like Hernan Crespo leading teams like Al Ain and former champions like Yokohama F Marinos in the mix, the tournament is set to showcase top-tier football action and memorable moments for fans worldwide. The new format and structure of the league add a new dimension to regional club football, setting the stage for a thrilling and competitive season ahead.
