France forward Kylian Mbappe has announced that he will not be representing his country at the upcoming Paris Olympics. The 25-year-old made this decision as his new club, Real Madrid, has made it clear that they do not want him to participate. Mbappe, who recently signed for the European champions from Paris Saint-Germain, will join his new team for the upcoming season under a freedom of contract agreement.

Mbappe’s decision means that he will miss the men’s Olympics football tournament, which is set to begin on July 24 with the final taking place on August 9. With the Spanish season starting a week later and Madrid playing in the UEFA Super Cup in Warsaw on August 14, Mbappe felt that joining a new team in September would not be the best way to begin his new adventure. Despite expressing a desire to play for the French Olympic team led by Thierry Henry, Mbappe has accepted his club’s decision and wishes the France team all the best in their quest for the gold medal.

The French captain spoke about his decision ahead of France’s opening Euro 2024 game against Austria, where he expressed his disappointment at not being able to participate in the Olympics. Mbappe acknowledged that he will now have to support his national team as a spectator rather than a player and hopes that they can achieve success in the tournament. His decision comes after fellow football superstar Lionel Messi also confirmed that he would not be participating in the Olympics, prioritizing his club commitments over international duty.

The announcement by Mbappe has sparked speculation about the impact of his absence on the French team’s chances in the Olympics. Despite missing out on the opportunity to play in the tournament, Mbappe remains focused on his new challenge at Real Madrid and is eager to make a strong start with his new team. As one of the most talented and acclaimed players in world football, Mbappe’s decision not to participate in the Olympics has generated mixed reactions among fans and experts alike, with many expressing disappointment at not being able to see him in action on the international stage.
