Dubai-born Josh Hill recently participated in the local US Open Qualifying Round and shot an impressive four under par 68. The qualifying round took place at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Silver Lakes, Alabama, US. Hill’s performance secured him a spot in the Final Qualifying Rounds for the US Open at Pinehurst, which is considered the third Major of the year.

Hill, who is currently on a golf scholarship at the University of Tennessee in the US, finished tied for second place in the qualifying round, just one shot behind the winner. Out of the 84 players who participated, five spots were available for qualification. Hill’s strong performance earned him a chance to compete in the Final Qualifying Rounds.

The US Open Qualifying Rounds were conducted over 18 holes at 109 sites in 44 US States and Canada. The local exempt players, along with those who progressed from the local qualifiers, will now compete in the Final Qualifying (Sectional) Rounds. These rounds will be held at 10 US sites and three international locations, including Canada, England, and Japan.

The Final Qualifying Rounds are played over 36 holes and are often referred to as ‘Golf’s Longest Day.’ Over 10,000 golfers, both professionals and amateurs with a handicap of 0.4 or lower, initially entered the qualifying process. Those who progress through the qualifiers will join the fully exempt field to complete the final 156-player lineup for the US Open.

Josh Hill is considered one of the most talented golfers to emerge from the UAE. He has previously participated in prestigious events such as the Dubai Desert Classic and Abu Dhabi Championship, making the cut in both tournaments in 2022. Hill’s performance has garnered attention and recognition within the golfing community.

The US Open has a rich history at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club’s Course No. 2, with the tournament being held at the venue in 1999, 2005, and 2014. Notable winners include Payne Stewart, Michael Campbell, and Martin Kaymer. Pinehurst is also scheduled to host the US Open in 2029, 2035, 2041, and 2047, solidifying its status as an anchor site for one of golf’s most prestigious events. Hill will have the opportunity to showcase his skills at the upcoming US Open, representing both his talent and the UAE on an international stage.
