The 2024 President’s Cup is set to take place at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada from September 24th to 29th. This biennial event sees a team from the US square off against a team representing the Rest of the World (excluding Europe) in a four-day, match-play competition. The teams will be comprised of twelve players each, a mix of automatic qualifiers and captain’s picks. The US team will be led by captain Jim Furyk, while the Rest of the World team will be captained by Canadian Mike Weir.
Established in 1994, the President’s Cup has seen the International Team win once in 1998 and the famous tied match in 2003 in South Africa. However, all other matches have resulted in a victory for the US Team. With the changing landscape of the golf world due to the emergence of LIV Golf, it is expected that the roster for both teams will be different this time around. All players, including automatic qualifiers and captain’s picks, must be eligible to participate in PGA Tour-sanctioned events.
Currently, the ranking process for both teams is underway, with the US Team qualifying based on FedEx Cup points and the International Team qualifying based on Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points. The top six players in each team’s rankings will be selected, with the remaining spots filled in by captain’s picks following the 2024 BMW Championship, which concludes on August 26th, 2024. The President’s Cup is known for showcasing top talent from around the world and providing an exciting competition for fans to enjoy.
As of the latest rankings after the Travelers Championship, the current US Team includes players like Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffler, Collin Morikawa, and others. On the other hand, the International Team features players like H. Matsuyama, J. Day, T. Kim, and N. Taylor. With such a talented pool of players on both teams, the 2024 President’s Cup promises to be a thrilling event filled with competitive golf and a display of the sport’s best talent. Golf enthusiasts around the world can look forward to witnessing this exciting competition at the Royal Montreal Golf Club.
