The European Club Association (ECA) and UEFA have extended their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) until 2033. This partnership, which represents over 700 clubs across 55 countries in Europe, was announced during the ECA’s 31st General Assembly in Athens, Greece. The agreement, signed by ECA Chairman Nasser Al Khelaifi and UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin, reaffirms the collaborative framework between the two organizations.

The extended MoU solidifies the relationship between UEFA and ECA, recognizing UEFA as the governing body of football in Europe and ECA as the sole representative body for clubs at both European and global levels. The agreement underscores the continued cooperation that has been instrumental in the development, stability, and success of European club football for over 15 years. The signing ceremony marked a milestone in the ongoing partnership between the two organizations.

Over the past year, UEFA and ECA have reached landmark agreements on critical issues concerning European club football. These agreements include a significant increase in the funds allocated to non-participating clubs in UEFA’s men’s club competitions for the 2024-27 cycle, rising from 4% to 7% of the projected revenue threshold of €4.4bn. This means a total of €308m per year is now distributed to clubs not participating in European competitions.

ECA Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi expressed his enthusiasm for the renewed partnership, stating that the extended MoU is fantastic news for all European clubs and will contribute to the stability and growth of European football. He highlighted the collaboration between ECA and UEFA across various aspects of the game, including governance, representation, sporting, regulatory, financial, and commercial matters. This collaboration ensures the continued development and success of the sport at all levels.

UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin emphasized the importance of the partnership with ECA in creating an inclusive, sustainable, and dynamic ecosystem that benefits the entire European football pyramid. Together, the two organizations are committed to enhancing the global prominence of UEFA club competitions while ensuring that clubs of all sizes, across every region, thrive both on and off the pitch. The signing ceremony marked a significant step towards achieving these shared goals.

Overall, the extension of the MoU between ECA and UEFA until 2033 highlights the ongoing commitment to collaboration and cooperation in European club football. The strengthened relationship between the two organizations ensures the continued development, stability, and success of the sport for years to come. With key agreements reached on critical issues and a shared vision for the future of the game, the partnership between ECA and UEFA is set to benefit clubs, players, and fans across Europe.
