Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Naib emerged as the hero in their T20 World Cup match against Australia, leading his team to a surprising 21-run victory. Naib’s four wickets for 20 runs played a crucial role in restricting Australia to 127 runs. Glenn Maxwell’s valiant effort for Australia was not enough to secure a win, as he fell victim to Naib’s bowling. Afghanistan’s win marked a historic moment for the team, as it was their first-ever victory over Australia in a senior international encounter.

Pat Cummins continued his impressive form with a second hat-trick in as many matches, but Afghanistan’s opening pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran set a solid foundation with a century partnership. Despite losing momentum towards the end of their innings, Afghanistan managed to post a total of 148 for six. Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa played crucial roles in Australia’s bowling effort, but Cummins’ hat-trick spells dashed Afghanistan’s hopes of a higher total.

Australian captain Mitchell Marsh acknowledged that his team had an off night in the field and credited Afghanistan for their superior performance. Rashid Khan, Afghanistan’s captain, attributed the team’s success to their decision to revert to their previous playing eleven. With both teams facing crucial matches in the Super Eight stage, the race for semi-final spots remains open. Australia will need to defeat India in their final match to secure a spot in the last four, while Afghanistan will face Bangladesh with hopes of making it to the semi-finals for the first time.

As Afghanistan celebrates their historic victory over Australia, their focus now shifts to the upcoming match against Bangladesh. With a strong belief in their abilities and a diversified bowling attack led by Gulbadin Naib, Afghanistan is determined to make it to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, Australia will be looking to bounce back against India in their final group match to secure a spot in the semi-finals. The thrilling encounters in the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup have kept cricket fans on the edge of their seats, with unexpected results and standout performances shaping the tournament.
