In a recent media briefing delivered by the Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in Doha, Qatar, Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari emphasized the importance of pressuring both Israeli and Palestinian sides to accept US President Joe Biden’s proposal to end the war in the Gaza Strip. Dr. Al Ansari highlighted the urgent need for negotiation and humanitarian aid access, stating that military solutions are not the way forward. He mentioned the ongoing negotiations between Hamas and the Israeli occupation forces, sponsored by Qatar, Egypt, and the US, brought closer to an agreement with clear positions on the table based on President Biden’s principles.

The State of Qatar has been actively engaged in pressing for dialogue between both parties and emphasizing the necessity of an immediate ceasefire deal. Dr. Al Ansari noted the devastating impact of the Israeli aggression in Gaza which has resulted in numerous casualties, wounded individuals, and displaced Palestinians. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is facing difficulties in providing aid due to political reasons, which Dr. Al Ansari stressed should not be the case as humanitarian aid should be independent of politics.

The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip continues to worsen, calling for international attention and immediate action to reach an agreement that can address the catastrophic conditions on the ground. Dr. Al Ansari highlighted the ongoing negotiations between the conflicting parties in Cairo and Doha, with the aim of eventually moving towards direct meetings at the highest levels. Qatar’s role as a mediator has been crucial in these efforts, and the country remains committed to pursuing a resolution to end the crisis and alleviate the suffering of civilians.

The MoFA’s efforts include hosting the 160th Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and engaging in joint ministerial meetings with the sisterly Republic of Yemen and the sisterly Republic of Turkiye. The joint statement issued by Qatar, Egypt, and the US following President Biden’s outline for a ceasefire agreement was also highlighted, emphasizing the ongoing diplomatic efforts to mediate the conflict. HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani’s contacts with key international figures reflect Qatar’s dedication to finding a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

In addition to mediation efforts, the State of Qatar has pledged significant support for humanitarian efforts in Syria and has participated in international forums such as the China-Arab Cooperation Forum. Dr. Al Ansari’s briefing touched upon various diplomatic engagements and initiatives undertaken by the MoFA, underscoring Qatar’s commitment to finding a peaceful solution to the conflict in Gaza. The state’s presidency of the current session and its continued efforts to engage with key regional and international stakeholders demonstrate Qatar’s proactive approach towards resolving the crisis.
