Spanish footballer Andrés Iniesta, who is known for scoring Spain’s World Cup-winning goal in 2010 and being a key player in Barcelona’s tiki-taka style, has announced his retirement from soccer after a 22-year career. Iniesta, who is now 40 years old, made the announcement at an emotional ceremony in Barcelona, reflecting on his journey from a young boy with a dream of playing soccer to becoming a successful professional athlete through hard work and sacrifice.

Iniesta made his debut with Barcelona in 2002 and went on to appear in 674 matches for the club, winning numerous titles including nine Spanish leagues and six Copa del Reys. He was part of a legendary midfield at Barcelona alongside Xavi Hernández and Sergio Busquets, as well as playing with Lionel Messi in attack, creating a team that was known for its mesmerizing ball-possession style, tiki-taka. Iniesta’s unique ball control and playmaking ability made him stand out as one of the best in the world.

After leaving Barcelona in 2018, Iniesta played for Vissel Kobe in Japan before joining club Emirates in the UAE Pro League. Throughout his career, he also had success with the Spanish national team, winning the 2008 and 2012 Euros and the 2010 World Cup, where he scored the winning goal in extra time. Iniesta’s contributions to Spanish and Barcelona soccer have left a lasting impact on the sport.

Iniesta’s retirement ceremony was attended by his family, Barcelona officials, and members of the current squad, including coach Hansi Flick. His former teammate, Lionel Messi, paid tribute to him on Instagram, calling him one of the most magical teammates he had ever played with. As Iniesta closes this chapter of his career, he leaves behind a legacy of excellence and sportsmanship that will be remembered by fans around the world for years to come.
