South Africa narrowly avoided an upset against Nepal in a thrilling T20 World Cup match in Kingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Nepal came within two runs of achieving victory in their pursuit of a modest target of 116. However, they fell short by just one run as Gulshan Jha was run out off the final ball. South Africa captain Aiden Markram expressed relief at the win and acknowledged the pressure Nepal put on his team with their bowling performance.

Nepal’s bowlers, Kushal Bhurtel and Dipendra Singh Airee, restricted South Africa to 115 for seven in their innings. Despite a strong partnership between Aasif Sheikh and Anil Sah, Nepal was unable to secure the win. Tabraiz Shamsi’s exceptional bowling performance, claiming four wickets for 19 runs, proved crucial in South Africa’s narrow victory. Anrich Nortje’s dismissal of Kushal Malla in the 19th over further tipped the balance in South Africa’s favor.

Sandeep Lamichhane’s absence in the first two matches was felt by Nepal, but his return lifted the team’s spirits. Despite their loss, Nepal’s captain Rohit Paudel praised the team’s performance and fighting spirit. South Africa, already qualified for the Super Eight phase, struggled with the bat as Nepal’s bowlers dominated. Reeza Hendricks top-scored with 43 runs, while Tristan Stubbs made a late effort with 27 not out.

The match was filled with tension and excitement as both teams fought hard for victory. South Africa’s top-order batsmen failed to make a significant impact, with Nepal’s bowlers maintaining control throughout the innings. Despite the pressure, South Africa managed to hold on for a narrow win. Nepal’s captain emphasized the need for more exposure to high-pressure games to continue their growth and development as a team.

In the end, South Africa emerged victorious in a closely contested match against Nepal. The game showcased the competitive spirit of both teams and the thrilling nature of T20 cricket. While South Africa secured the win, Nepal’s strong performance highlighted their potential for success in international cricket. With valuable lessons learned from the match, both teams will look to continue their progress in the T20 World Cup and beyond.
