Tottenham Hotspur will be facing Manchester City in the League Cup fourth-round tie without their captain Son Heung-min due to a hamstring injury. Son returned briefly to score against West Ham but reported soreness after the match, causing him to miss subsequent games. However, manager Ange Postecoglou is confident that Son will be fit for the Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday. Despite Son’s absence, the team is expected to perform well, with Timo Werner and Richarlison as potential starters in the upcoming game.

In the absence of Son, 17-year-old Mikey Moore started the recent match against Crystal Palace but may be replaced by Timo Werner or Richarlison in the upcoming game against Manchester City. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has indicated that the team may not prioritize the Carabao Cup this season, but Postecoglou is still anticipating a strong performance from the visitors. Although many clubs rotate their lineups for cup competitions, City’s consistent level of performance makes them a tough opponent regardless of the squad they field.

Postecoglou is yet to confirm if he will select his strongest lineup against City, acknowledging the club’s impressive record in the competition. He emphasized the need for his team to match City’s physicality, considering the quick turnaround from their last match against Crystal Palace. Despite Tottenham’s trophy drought since 2008, Postecoglou stressed the importance of treating every match with equal importance, refusing to prioritize one game over another based on fan expectations.

The upcoming League Cup clash with Manchester City poses a tough test for Tottenham, who are keen to progress in the competition. Postecoglou affirmed that the team will approach the game with the same level of commitment and determination, regardless of the opponent. With Son expected to return for the match against Aston Villa, Tottenham will be eager to put up a strong performance in his absence and showcase their depth in the squad. As they aim to end their trophy drought, every game, including cup ties, holds significance for Tottenham and the club’s supporters.
