Three ambitious development projects have been announced in the Mahzoora and Al Hajiyat areas of Riffa, Southern Governorate, aimed at improving traffic congestion, road capacity, and stormwater drainage systems. The first project will widen Mahzoora Avenue, Avenue 37, and Al Hajiyat Avenue, increasing capacity from 3,200 to 4,800 vehicles per hour. The second project will expand Avenue 37, add a third lane, extend the road by 970 metres, and improve pedestrian sidewalks. The third project will upgrade Al Hajiyat Avenue and introduce a new roundabout to increase capacity from 800 to 1,500 vehicles per hour.

The Mahzoora Avenue project aims to widen the road from two to three lanes between Road 3933 and Umm al-Naasan Avenue, resulting in a 50% increase in capacity. The Avenue 37 project will involve adding a third lane, extending the road by 970 metres, and improving pedestrian sidewalks while revising the intersection of Mahzoora Avenue and Avenue 37. The Al Hajiyat Avenue project will upgrade the avenue and the roundabout at its junction with Jiddah Avenue, enhancing capacity from 800 to 1,500 vehicles per hour.

The development projects will also include the reconstruction of adjacent roads, enhanced street lighting, underground utility channels, speed bumps, and traffic safety measures such as signs and road markings. With these improvements, the Mahzoora and Al Hajiyat areas of Riffa are set to receive a facelift that will benefit residents and visitors alike. The eased traffic congestion, expanded road capacity, and upgraded stormwater drainage systems will contribute to a smoother and safer traffic flow in the region.

Engineer Sheikh Mishaal Al Khalifa, Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Works, announced the three development projects, emphasizing the importance of enhancing infrastructure and addressing traffic challenges in the Mahzoora and Al Hajiyat areas. These initiatives showcase the government’s commitment to improving transportation infrastructure and providing better services for residents and visitors in the Southern Governorate. The projects align with Bahrain’s vision for sustainable urban development and smart city initiatives, promoting efficiency, safety, and accessibility in the region.

The implementation of these development projects highlights the government’s proactive approach to infrastructure improvement and urban planning in Bahrain. By investing in projects that enhance road capacity, traffic flow, and stormwater drainage systems, the government is demonstrating its commitment to creating a more sustainable and livable environment for all residents. The upgrades in Mahzoora and Al Hajiyat areas will not only improve the quality of life for residents but also contribute to the overall development and progress of the region, supporting economic growth and attracting investment opportunities.

In conclusion, the three development projects in the Mahzoora and Al Hajiyat areas of Riffa represent a significant step towards improving infrastructure, traffic management, and urban planning in Bahrain. By implementing these initiatives, the government is addressing critical transportation challenges and enhancing the overall quality of life in the Southern Governorate. The projects will not only benefit residents and visitors by providing safer and more efficient transportation networks but also contribute to the long-term sustainability and prosperity of the region. With these developments, Bahrain is poised to strengthen its position as a leading hub for business, tourism, and sustainable urban development in the region.
