Construction work in nine hospitals and health centers in Dhofar Governorate is progressing rapidly, with projects totaling OMR160 million being implemented by the Ministry of Health. These projects include the establishment of new hospitals in Salalah, Maqshan, and Thumrait, as well as expansion works at Taqah Hospital and Awqad Health Centre. The Ministry of Health also plans to implement 10 more projects in the next two years to enhance the efficiency of existing health institutions in line with population growth in other wilayats and governorates.

Eng. Yousef Yaqoub Ambu-Ali, Director General of Projects and Engineering Services at the Ministry of Health, provided updates on various ongoing projects. The completion rate of the new Sultan Qaboos Hospital project in Salalah stands at 48 percent, with the facility featuring state-of-the-art medical equipment and specialized clinics. Expansion works at the Awqad Health Centre in Salalah are also underway, with a completion rate of 25 percent so far. Additionally, projects to upgrade the Thamrait Health Centre to a local hospital and establish the Maqshan Hospital are in their final stages.

In Dhofar Governorate, efforts are being made to establish new health centers in Salalah, including in the areas of Sahalnout, Qairoun Hairiti, and Al Murooj. Plans for a new Sadah Hospital and the expansion of Mirbat Hospital are also in the pipeline. Tenders are being prepared to upgrade the Shahab Asaib Health Centre to a local hospital in the Wilayat of Rakhyut, and contracting procedures are being finalized to establish Dhalkut Hospital. The Ministry of Health is also planning to establish Al Mantika Al Gharbia Hospital in the western area to serve residents in the Wilayats of Rakhyut, Dhalkut, and parts of Al Mazyouna by 2025.

With a total of 45 health institutions in Dhofar Governorate, including the Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah, these construction projects aim to enhance healthcare services and cater to the growing population in the region. The Ministry of Health is committed to expanding and developing healthcare infrastructure to meet the needs of residents and provide quality medical services. The projects in progress and planned for the future demonstrate the government’s dedication to improving the healthcare sector in Dhofar Governorate.
