The Kingdom of Bahrain is actively investing in its future, and a key component of that investment is empowering its youth. Recently, under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council, a significant step was taken in this direction with a series of roundtable discussions as part of the “Parliamentary Youth 2025” program. This initiative underscores Bahrain’s commitment to fostering political participation and developing the next generation of leaders.

Fostering Future Leaders: The Parliamentary Youth 2025 Program

The “Parliamentary Youth 2025” program, now in its eighth edition, is a cornerstone of Bahrain’s strategy to integrate young voices into the national conversation. Organized by the Youth Pioneer Society in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Shura Council, the program provides a unique platform for young Bahrainis to engage directly with members of the Shura Council and understand the intricacies of the legislative process. This year’s event brought together over 40 promising young men and women, offering them invaluable experience and insights.

A Platform for Dialogue and Debate

The roundtable discussions weren’t merely observational; they were designed to be interactive and substantive. Participants had the opportunity to engage in objective discussions with distinguished Shura Council members, including Dr. Mohammed Ali Hassan Ali, Ms. Lina Habib Qasim, Mr. Hesham Hashem Al Qassab, Dr. Hani Ali Al Saati, and Ms. Hala Ramzi Fayez.

These discussions covered a broad spectrum of issues crucial to Bahrain’s development, spanning economic challenges, social progress, and improvements to public services. The format intentionally mirrored the official meetings of the Shura Council’s standing committees, providing a realistic simulation of legislative work. This hands-on approach allows participants to grasp the complexities of policy-making and the importance of informed debate.

Deep Dive into Legislative Processes

A central aim of the program is to demystify the legislative landscape for young people. Often, the workings of government can seem distant and inaccessible. However, the “Parliamentary Youth 2025” program breaks down these barriers by providing direct access to key decision-makers. Participants were able to delve into existing legislation and governing laws, questioning the rationale behind them and proposing potential improvements.

This exploration of civic engagement wasn’t limited to theoretical discussions. The simulated committee meetings encouraged participants to think critically, formulate arguments, and collaborate with their peers – skills essential for effective leadership. The program also highlighted the importance of understanding the impact of legislation on various segments of society.

Key Issues Discussed

While the specific details of each roundtable remain confidential, the overarching themes centered around issues relevant to Bahrain’s future. These included sustainable development, economic diversification, enhancing educational opportunities, and strengthening social welfare programs. Participants also explored the role of technology in governance and the importance of addressing the needs of vulnerable populations. The focus on these diverse topics demonstrates the program’s commitment to holistic leadership development.

The Importance of Youth Political Participation

Bahrain recognizes that its long-term prosperity depends on the active involvement of its youth in shaping the nation’s future. Encouraging political participation isn’t simply about increasing voter turnout; it’s about cultivating a generation of informed, engaged, and responsible citizens who are equipped to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities that lie ahead.

The “Parliamentary Youth 2025” program plays a vital role in this process. By providing a safe and supportive environment for young people to express their views and learn from experienced leaders, the program fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility. It also helps to bridge the gap between the government and the governed, ensuring that policies are responsive to the needs of the people.

Furthermore, the program actively promotes the development of crucial skills such as critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. These skills are not only essential for effective political participation but also for success in any field. The initiative is a testament to Bahrain’s forward-thinking approach to governance and its dedication to empowering its youth.

Looking Ahead: Empowering Bahrain’s Future

The success of the “Parliamentary Youth 2025” program is a clear indication of the enthusiasm and potential that exists within Bahrain’s younger generation. By continuing to invest in initiatives that promote political participation and leadership development, Bahrain is laying a strong foundation for a bright and prosperous future.

The program’s impact extends beyond the individual participants. The insights and ideas generated during the roundtable discussions can inform policy-making and contribute to a more inclusive and responsive government. It’s a virtuous cycle of engagement, learning, and progress.

We encourage all young Bahrainis to seek out opportunities to get involved in the national conversation and contribute their talents to building a better future for the Kingdom. Information about future iterations of the “Parliamentary Youth 2025” program and other youth engagement initiatives can be found on the Shura Council’s website and through the Youth Pioneer Society. Let your voice be heard and help shape the Bahrain of tomorrow.
