The Shura Council of Qatar recently concluded its third regular session of the first legislative term, corresponding to the 52nd annual session. The session, held at the Council’s headquarters in Doha, saw the approval of several important legislative measures, including amendments to the Penal Code, regulations for district cooling services, protection of public electrical and water facilities, and the establishment of a unified industrial regulation law for GCC countries. The session also involved the approval of the Council’s final account for the fiscal year 2023 and its draft budget for 2025.

During the session, reports on the participation of Council members in regional and international parliamentary meetings were reviewed, and requests for the extension of the work of permanent committees were approved. The official adjournment of the session was declared by the Secretary-General of the Shura Council, Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud, following the reading of Amiri Decree No. 40 of 2024. The session’s conclusion featured a speech by HE Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, expressing gratitude to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his support and commitment to popular participation in decision-making.

HE Al Ghanim highlighted the Council’s accomplishments during the session, including the examination and discussion of 24 draft laws and amendments to existing laws. He praised the cooperation between the Council and the government, as well as the approval of 15 draft laws addressing various issues. The Council’s involvement in community engagement initiatives, such as the ‘Simulation of Shura Council Sessions’ program, aimed at enhancing youth involvement in decision-making, was also emphasized. Additionally, the Council actively participated in Gulf, Arab, and international parliamentary activities, supporting just causes like the Palestinian cause and condemning aggression in Gaza.

In his closing remarks, HE Al Ghanim expressed gratitude to the heads and members of standing committees for their dedication, the media for their coverage of Council activities, and the General Secretariat for its support. The session’s discussions and approvals signify the Council’s commitment to legislative excellence and its role in promoting the well-being of the Qatari society. The session’s resolutions and decisions will have a significant impact on various aspects of the country’s governance and provide a framework for future legislative actions and reforms. As the Shura Council continues its mission of representing the interests and concerns of the Qatari people, its recent session serves as a testament to its dedication to serving the nation and upholding democratic values.
