The Dubai Metro, an iconic driverless train, celebrated its 15th anniversary on September 9, with Dubai’s Ruler commending the efforts of Metro workers and setting new goals. The Ruler emphasized the Metro’s commitment to trip schedules, aiming to achieve 100 percent punctuality. Over its lifespan, the Metro has transported 2.4 billion passengers in 4.3 million trips, showcasing its importance as a popular means of public transport in Dubai.

Punctuality is seen as a cultural value by the Ruler, who thanked all Dubai Metro workers for their dedication in upholding this value. The Crown Prince of Dubai also took the opportunity to praise the vision of Sheikh Mohammed and the success of the Metro, which started with 20,000 passengers a day and now serves more than 730,000 daily. The Metro is recognized for reflecting Dubai’s ethos of quality, leadership, and rapid execution of mega projects, strengthening the emirate’s global position in sustainable transportation.

To celebrate the Metro’s 15th anniversary, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is offering limited-edition items and initiatives. Metro babies born on September 9 can receive academic sponsorships for higher education, and a celebration for Metro babies born between 2009 and 2023 will be hosted by Legoland Dubai in 2024. Residents can enjoy musical performances at Metro stations by Emirati and international musicians, and 5,000 winners will receive discount Nol cards found on limited-edition Metro ice cream sticks.

In conclusion, the Dubai Metro has become an integral part of Dubai’s transportation system over the past 15 years, serving millions of passengers and setting global records. The Metro’s success is a testament to the vision of Dubai’s leadership and the dedication of Metro workers. As celebrations continue to mark this milestone, Dubai residents and visitors can participate in a range of activities and initiatives to celebrate the Metro’s impact on the emirate’s culture and transport infrastructure.
