The Special Economic Zone at Duqm in Muscat has experienced a significant increase in the number of students in public and private schools in recent years. This growth can be attributed to the rise in investments in the zone, as well as the migration of Omani and foreign families to settle in Duqm. The availability of various services and facilities has encouraged workers to make Duqm their home, leading to a surge in the student population.

In the academic year 2023/2024, the number of male and female students in Duqm has surpassed 1,740, a notable increase of 47.3 percent from the academic year 2018/2019. This spike coincides with the opening of Al Saad International School in 2021, which has played a key role in accommodating the growing student population. The Acting CEO of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, Eng. Ahmed bin Ali Akaak, expressed the zone’s eagerness to attract more investments in the education sector to support the ongoing projects.

Duqm currently boasts 8 schools, comprising of 6 government schools and 2 private institutions – Al Saad International School and the Indian School in Duqm. Additionally, there are several kindergartens catering to the pre-school stage. Al Saad International School has seen an enrollment of over 200 students from diverse nationalities, while the Indian School has 52 students representing 5 different nationalities. The Indian School, affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India, was established to cater to the increasing number of Indian families settling in Duqm and aims to provide a comprehensive educational experience from kindergarten to primary school, with plans for further expansion in the future.

The growth in the student population at Duqm is a positive indicator of the economic development and investment opportunities in the region. As the zone continues to attract more businesses and workers, there is a pressing need to enhance the education sector to meet the demands of the growing community. The presence of reputable schools like Al Saad International School and the Indian School in Duqm reflects the commitment to providing quality education and fostering a conducive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds.

The influx of families settling in Duqm underscores the appeal of the zone as a desirable residential and working destination. The availability of essential services, modern facilities, and a vibrant community have contributed to the rising number of students in the area. With a focus on further investments in the education sector, Duqm is poised to become a hub for academic excellence, offering students a range of educational opportunities and support for their intellectual growth and development. It is evident that the future of education in Duqm is promising, with a commitment to nurturing young minds and preparing them for a successful future.

In conclusion, the growth of the student population in Duqm is a reflection of the zone’s progress and development, driven by increased investments and the influx of families settling in the area. The presence of schools like Al Saad International School and the Indian School in Duqm underscores the commitment to providing quality education and meeting the educational needs of a diverse community. As the zone continues to attract businesses and residents, there is a growing emphasis on enhancing the education sector to support the evolving demographic. With a focus on expanding educational opportunities and infrastructure, Duqm is poised to become a leading educational hub, offering students a conducive learning environment and preparing them for future success.
