The Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA) has recently announced the introduction of the first-ever regulation specifically designed for Saudi yachts operating within a designated geographical scope. This regulation is aimed at regulating the activities of yachts, setting necessary requirements, and managing the issuance of tourism and leisure licenses and permits. The main focus of this regulation is on environmental protection, sustainability, and safety requirements, showcasing SRSA’s dedication to developing a sustainable coastal tourism sector. The regulation also aligns with SRSA’s overall mandate, which includes issuing licenses and permits, setting standards for coastal tourism activities, ensuring marine environmental protection in the Red Sea, and encouraging practitioners and enthusiasts within the industry.

One of the key objectives of this new regulation is to enhance the overall user experience for individuals involved in yacht activities and to advance the maturity of the coastal tourism sector. By specifying conditions and procedures for issuing technical licenses for leisure tourism, as well as outlining criteria for yacht owners or authorized maritime agents, the regulation aims to streamline the process and ensure that all necessary requirements are met in order to operate within the industry. Additionally, the regulation includes conditions for obtaining tourism chartering licenses, which require a licensed maritime tourism agent or yacht management company, a contract between the agent and charterer, secure marina-to-yacht access, and a safety guide on board.

In addition to the requirements outlined for obtaining licenses and permits, the regulation also details procedures for obtaining a tourism trip permit in Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea waters. This includes mandatory passenger information, details of sailing destinations, and charter contracts. The regulation also mandates approvals and licenses for water activities such as recreational fishing and diving, requiring clear usage guides, rescue and first aid response plans, life jackets, and special provisions for children’s activities. These measures are put in place to ensure the safety and protection of all individuals involved in these water activities.

Furthermore, the regulation emphasizes the specifications that chartering yachts must adhere to, focusing on safety and environmental protection measures. Additionally, the regulation supports the rights of individuals with disabilities and promotes marine environment preservation by minimizing plastic use and preventing pollution. The regulation also stresses the importance of adhering to safe navigation guidelines and complying with charter terms in order to promote a safe and sustainable environment for all individuals involved in yacht activities within Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea waters.

Overall, the introduction of this new regulation by the Saudi Red Sea Authority is a significant step towards regulating and standardizing the yacht industry within the region. By focusing on environmental protection, sustainability, and safety requirements, the regulation aims to enhance the overall user experience and advance the maturity of the coastal tourism sector. With detailed procedures and requirements outlined for obtaining licenses and permits, as well as specifications for chartering yachts and promoting marine environment preservation, this regulation sets a strong foundation for the future growth and development of the yacht industry in Saudi Arabia.
