Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb recently visited the Al-Baha region as part of his tour of several areas across the Kingdom, coinciding with the Saudi Summer program. During the visit, Al-Khateeb toured various tourist attractions in Al-Baha and assessed the available facilities for visitors, aiming to enhance the tourist experience and improve the quality of services in the region. The Minister also reviewed ongoing projects funded by the Tourism Development Fund in the area, emphasizing the importance of ensuring these projects offer unique benefits and meet the region’s needs to attract more tourists, both domestic and international. He praised the region’s enchanting natural beauty and favorable climate, which position it as a potential leading tourist destination in Saudi Arabia and the wider region.

Data for the tourism sector in Al-Baha up to the end of 2023 indicates that the total number of local and international tourists exceeded one million, marking a 6% increase from 2022. Tourist spending reached SR1.2 billion, a 27% rise, while the number of hospitality licenses issued was 32. The total number of rooms in hospitality facilities surpassed 1,200, and the sector created nearly 7,000 jobs, an 11% increase from 2022. The rate of nationalization in jobs reached 18%, with 28% of licensed tourism jobs being held by Saudi nationals. The growth in tourism in Al-Baha shows the potential for the region to become a major tourist destination, attracting both local and international visitors.

Al-Khateeb’s visit to Al-Baha highlights the government’s commitment to developing and promoting tourism in Saudi Arabia. The Minister’s focus on assessing tourist attractions and improving facilities demonstrates a dedication to enhancing the overall visitor experience and ensuring that the region meets the needs of tourists. By reviewing ongoing projects funded by the Tourism Development Fund, Al-Khateeb is prioritizing the development of infrastructure and services that will help attract more visitors to the region. This strategic approach to tourism development is essential for positioning Al-Baha as a leading destination in Saudi Arabia.

The positive growth in tourism numbers in Al-Baha, with over one million visitors in 2023, reflects the region’s appeal as a tourist destination. The increase in tourist spending and the number of hospitality licenses issued indicate a growing interest in Al-Baha as a place to visit and explore. The creation of nearly 7,000 jobs in the tourism sector also demonstrates the economic benefits that tourism can bring to the region, particularly in terms of job opportunities for local residents. The high rate of nationalization in tourism jobs further emphasizes the importance of involving Saudi nationals in the tourism industry.

The enchanting natural beauty and favorable climate of Al-Baha make it a unique destination with the potential to attract a wide range of visitors. From local tourists looking to explore their own country to international travelers seeking new experiences, Al-Baha offers something for everyone. The focus on enhancing the quality of services and facilities in the region will only further enhance the appeal of Al-Baha as a tourist destination, ensuring that visitors have a memorable and enjoyable experience. By investing in tourism infrastructure and supporting ongoing projects, the region can continue to grow and thrive as a leading destination in Saudi Arabia.

Overall, Minister Al-Khateeb’s visit to Al-Baha underscores the government’s commitment to promoting tourism and economic development in the region. With a focus on enhancing the tourist experience, improving facilities, and supporting ongoing projects, Al-Baha is poised to become a major destination in Saudi Arabia. The positive growth in tourism numbers and the economic benefits that tourism brings highlight the importance of investing in the sector and ensuring that Al-Baha reaches its full potential as a leading tourist destination. As the region continues to attract visitors and create new opportunities for job growth, it is clear that Al-Baha has a bright future as a top destination in the Kingdom.
