The Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, recently addressed the United Nations Security Council in New York, emphasizing the need for the Council to take responsibility for ending the crisis in Palestine. Prince Faisal stated that political considerations have hindered the Council from fulfilling its responsibilities, leading to a prolonged cycle of violence in the region. Saudi Arabia, along with its partners in the Joint Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee, launched the “International Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution” to work towards ending the Israeli occupation and implementing a two-state solution.

Prince Faisal reiterated Saudi Arabia’s commitment to establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, allowing Palestinians to exercise their inherent right to self-determination. He expressed gratitude to Slovenia for responding to Algeria’s call to hold the Security Council session and for supporting efforts to establish international peace and security. The minister highlighted the urgent need for the Security Council to address the serious Israeli violations and deteriorating humanitarian situation in Palestine.

Despite numerous draft resolutions being vetoed or failing to achieve a ceasefire, Prince Faisal called on the Security Council to take meaningful action to end the suffering in Palestine and uphold international law. He pointed out the growing gap between international consensus and differences within the Security Council, hindering its effectiveness in addressing the Palestinian crisis. Prince Faisal stressed that achieving peace requires empowerment from the international community and courageous decision-making from the Security Council.

In light of Israel’s refusal to recognize the two-state solution and ongoing unilateral measures undermining peace prospects, Prince Faisal called for a serious partnership for peace. He urged members of the international community and Security Council countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to support the two-state solution and work towards achieving sustainable peace and coexistence in the region. The minister emphasized that the time has come to take decisive action and commit to implementing a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Overall, Prince Faisal’s address to the United Nations Security Council underscored the need for immediate action to end the crisis in Palestine and work towards achieving a two-state solution. He called on the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities, make courageous decisions, and support the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. By advocating for international cooperation and commitment to peace, Prince Faisal highlighted the importance of addressing the root causes of conflict and working towards a sustainable solution for the region.
