Saudi Arabia is set to participate in the UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) 2024, which will take place from July 8-18 in New York. The Kingdom’s participation in the forum reaffirms its commitment to global sustainable development and its dedication to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 Agenda. The Saudi delegation, led by Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal Al-Ibrahim, includes representatives from 13 government entities, showcasing the nation’s collaborative effort towards sustainable development.

The Royal Commission for the Development of Riyadh will present this year’s Voluntary Local Review Report, analyzing the progress towards sustainable development goals at the local level in the Riyadh region. This highlights Saudi Arabia’s efforts to integrate the principles of Vision 2030 with global sustainable development goals. The Kingdom has previously presented voluntary national reviews at the HLPF in 2018 and 2023, demonstrating significant progress across various sustainable development areas.

As part of the forum, the Ministry of Economy and Planning will host a side event titled ‘Localizing the SDGs,’ featuring speakers from government entities and global partners. This event will showcase local initiatives and projects aimed at achieving the UN’s SDGs. Additionally, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture will participate in a pavilion focusing on the Green Saudi Initiative and the Green Middle East Initiative, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s preparations to host COP 16 in Riyadh in December.

The theme of HLPF 2024 is ‘Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient, and innovative solutions.’ The forum will conduct in-depth reviews on several SDGs, including SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Saudi Arabia has been participating in the HLPF annually since 2017, demonstrating its commitment to promoting sustainable development globally.

Saudi Arabia’s participation in the HLPF 2024 signifies its ongoing dedication to global sustainable development and the achievement of the SDGs outlined in Vision 2030. The diverse representation from various government entities in the Saudi delegation reflects the nation’s collaborative approach towards sustainable development. Through initiatives such as the Voluntary Local Review Report and participation in side events like ‘Localizing the SDGs,’ Saudi Arabia aims to showcase its progress and contributions to the global sustainable development agenda.

The Kingdom’s involvement in the HLPF also highlights its leadership role in promoting initiatives such as the Green Saudi Initiative and the Green Middle East Initiative. By participating in the pavilion focusing on these initiatives, Saudi Arabia aims to raise awareness about its efforts to combat desertification and promote environmental sustainability. The nation’s preparations to host COP 16 in Riyadh further demonstrate its commitment to addressing global environmental challenges.

In conclusion, Saudi Arabia’s participation in the UN High-Level Political Forum 2024 reinforces its commitment to global sustainable development and the achievement of the SDGs. The Kingdom’s integration of Vision 2030 principles with global sustainable development goals, as well as its active involvement in showcasing progress and initiatives at the forum, highlights its dedication to promoting a sustainable and resilient future. Through its engagement in HLPF and other global platforms, Saudi Arabia continues to demonstrate its leadership and commitment to driving sustainable development efforts on a global scale.
