Saudi Arabia announced on Monday the discovery of new oil and natural gas fields in the Eastern Province and the Empty Quarter. Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman revealed that Saudi Aramco has made significant discoveries, including two unconventional oil fields, one Arabian light oil reservoir, two natural gas fields, and two natural gas reservoirs. These discoveries will further boost Saudi Arabia’s position as a major player in the global energy market.
The Al-Ladam field for unconventional oil was found in the Eastern Province, with the Ladam-2 well producing very light Arabian oil at a rate of 5100 barrels per day, along with 4.9 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day. Another unconventional oil field, Al-Farouq, was confirmed in the Eastern Province with the Al-Farouq-4 well producing Arabian very light oil at a rate of 4557 barrels per day, accompanied by 3.79 million standard cubic feet of gas per day. These discoveries will contribute to the Kingdom’s oil production capacity.
In addition to the unconventional oil fields, the Unayza B/C reservoir was discovered in the Mazaleej field in the Eastern Province. Arab light oil flowed from the Mazaleej-62 well at a rate of 1780 barrels per day, along with 0.7 million standard cubic feet of gas per day. The minister also announced the discovery of the Al-Jahaq natural gas field in the Empty Quarter, with the Al-Jahaq-1 well producing natural gas at a rate of 5.3 million standard cubic feet per day. Another natural gas field, Al-Katuf, was confirmed in the Empty Quarter with the Al-Katuf-1 well producing gas at a rate of 7.6 million standard cubic feet per day, along with 40 barrels per day of condensate.
Prince Abdulaziz expressed his gratitude for the major discoveries, thanking God for the blessings bestowed upon the Kingdom. He also congratulated Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for these achievements, while praying for continued security, safety, and prosperity for the Kingdom and its people.
