Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman recently met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Thailand Perapan Athavibhag to discuss opportunities for cooperation in various energy fields between the two countries. The high-level delegation from Thailand is visiting Saudi Arabia to explore potential partnerships in oil and gas, renewable energy, hydrogen, carbon extraction, use and storage, and energy efficiency. The meeting also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s initiatives to lead the energy transformation, including the “Green Saudi Arabia” and “Green Middle East” projects.

The discussions between the two energy ministers centered on ways to enhance collaboration and exchange knowledge and technology in the energy sector. Saudi Arabia, as one of the leading oil-producing nations in the world, is keen on expanding its reach in renewable energy and other sustainable practices. Thailand, on the other hand, is looking to diversify its energy sources and reduce dependency on traditional fossil fuels. Both countries see great potential in working together to achieve their energy goals and contribute to global sustainability efforts.

One of the key areas of cooperation highlighted in the meeting is the development of hydrogen technology. Hydrogen is seen as a promising clean energy source that can help reduce carbon emissions and support the transition to a more sustainable energy mix. Saudi Arabia and Thailand are exploring opportunities to collaborate on hydrogen production, storage, and utilization to support their clean energy objectives. By sharing expertise and resources, the two countries can accelerate the development and adoption of hydrogen technology in the region.

Another important focus of the meeting was on carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology. As the world strives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change, CCUS has emerged as a critical solution to capture and store carbon dioxide emissions from industrial processes and power generation. Saudi Arabia and Thailand are looking to collaborate on CCUS projects to mitigate their carbon footprints and support global efforts to achieve net-zero emissions. By leveraging their respective strengths in energy production and technology innovation, the two countries can make significant advancements in CCUS development.

Energy efficiency was also highlighted as a key area of cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Thailand. Improving energy efficiency is essential for reducing energy consumption, lowering costs, and minimizing environmental impacts. Both countries are committed to enhancing energy efficiency in various sectors, including buildings, transportation, and industry. By sharing best practices, technologies, and policies, Saudi Arabia and Thailand can drive progress towards a more sustainable and resource-efficient future. Collaborative efforts in energy efficiency will not only benefit the two countries but also contribute to global energy conservation goals.

Overall, the meeting between Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and Deputy Prime Minister Perapan Athavibhag underscored the strong commitment of Saudi Arabia and Thailand to advancing energy cooperation for mutual benefits. By leveraging their collective expertise, resources, and innovative solutions, the two countries can create a more sustainable and resilient energy sector that benefits their economies and the environment. Through partnerships in oil and gas, renewable energy, hydrogen technology, CCUS, and energy efficiency, Saudi Arabia and Thailand are poised to make significant contributions to the global energy transition and lead the way towards a more sustainable future.
