Abderrahman Samba of Qatar marked his return from injury at the Diamond League meet in Stockholm, finishing with a time of 49.69 secs in the men’s 400m hurdles race. The 28-year-old hurdler has been battling with injuries since his standout season in 2018, where he set the Asian record and won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Doha 2019. Samba missed the 2020 season and finished fifth at the Tokyo Games in 2021 before suffering a hamstring injury in the 2022 Doha Diamond League. However, he made a strong return in October 2023, claiming his second consecutive Asian Games gold.

Despite a cautious start in his first race of the season, Samba’s return is a promising sign for Team Qatar as they aim to improve upon their medal tally from the Tokyo Games. Although his time in Stockholm was not as impressive as expected, Samba remains confident in his ability to compete for a podium finish in major events if he can maintain his health and training consistency. He finished ahead of his teammate Bassem Hemeida, who clocked 50.38 secs in the race.

Meanwhile, Brazilian hurdler Alison Dos Santos emerged victorious in the 400m hurdles event with a time of 47.01 secs, following his world-leading time of 46.63 secs in Oslo the previous week. Dos Santos expressed his satisfaction with the race and emphasized the importance of consistent training to maintain his form. He plans to return to Florida to work with his coach and prepare for upcoming events such as the Diamond League meets in Monaco, Paris, and London in preparation for the Paris Olympics.

Dos Santos’ success in Stockholm highlights the competitive nature of the 400m hurdles event, with athletes like Kyron McMaster and CJ Allen also showcasing strong performances. The race has evolved significantly in recent years, presenting a challenge for athletes to stay at the top of their game and compete for medals on the global stage. With Dos Santos’ impressive form and Samba’s return to competition, fans can look forward to an exciting showdown in the 400m hurdles at the upcoming Paris Olympics.
