Doha, Qatar – A dramatic late goal by Mohammed Saleh salvaged a 2-2 draw for Al Rayyan against Al Arabi in a thrilling Qatar Stars League encounter at Al Thumama Stadium yesterday. The result maintains Al Rayyan’s position in the top three of the league standings, while Al Arabi also secured a point in a closely contested match. Elsewhere in the league, Al Duhail edged past Qatar SC with a 1-0 victory, and Al Sailiya and Al Wakrah played to a goalless stalemate.

The match between Al Rayyan and Al Arabi saw a flurry of action, with both teams demonstrating attacking intent. Roger Guedes initially put Al Rayyan ahead in the 35th minute, but Al Arabi responded through Pablo Sarabia and then took the lead with a header from Alexis Perez in the 72nd minute. However, Saleh’s composed finish in the fifth minute of stoppage time ensured the points were shared.

Al Rayyan Fight Back in Entertaining Qatar Stars League Clash

Al Rayyan’s ability to secure a draw despite trailing late in the game highlights their resilience and determination this season. The team, currently third in the standings with 20 points, will be looking to build on this performance as the league progresses. Al Arabi, now on 17 points, will feel frustrated after conceding so late, especially following a red card shown to Abdullah Marafee after the equalizer for violent conduct.

Key Moments in the Al Rayyan-Al Arabi Match

Guedes opened the scoring for Al Rayyan with a well-placed volley, capitalizing on a diagonal delivery. Al Arabi quickly responded after the break, with Sarabia leveling the score after an initial attempt was blocked. Perez’s goal from a corner appeared to have sealed the victory for Al Arabi, but Saleh had other ideas, scoring a crucial goal in added time to secure a point for his team.

Meanwhile, at Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium, Al Duhail secured a narrow 1-0 win over Qatar SC thanks to a header from Ismail Mohamad in the 55th minute. Despite being reduced to 10 men late in the game following a second yellow card for Bassam Al Rawi, Al Duhail managed to hold on for the victory, moving to 15 points in the Qatar League.

The match between Al Sailiya and Al Wakrah lacked the goalmouth action of the other two fixtures, ending in a 0-0 draw at Grand Hamad Stadium. Al Wakrah remain sixth with 16 points, while Al Sailiya are tenth with eight points. This result demonstrates the competitive nature of the QSL this season, with several teams closely matched.

Looking ahead, today’s fixtures feature a potentially pivotal match between Al Shamal and defending champions Al Sadd at Al Shamal Sports Club. Al Shamal, trailing league leaders Al Gharafa by four points, will be eager to close the gap with a win. Coach David Prats acknowledged the challenge posed by Al Sadd’s star-studded lineup, including Roberto Firmino, Claudinho, and Akram Afif, but expressed confidence in his team’s ability to deliver a positive result.

Al Sadd coach Roberto Mancini echoed the sentiment, recognizing the difficulty of the match but emphasizing the importance of reducing the deficit to the league leaders. Mancini noted that their recent 4-2 comeback win in the AFC Champions League Elite stage had boosted the team’s confidence and could positively impact their league campaign. The other match today will see Al Ahli face Umm Salal at Al Thumama Stadium.

The Qatar Stars League season continues to unfold with unpredictable results and exciting matches. The upcoming clash between Al Shamal and Al Sadd is expected to be a key indicator of both teams’ title aspirations. Further matches will reveal whether Al Gharafa can maintain their lead or if other contenders will emerge as the season progresses.
