Aryna Sabalenka is the player most likely to challenge Iga Swiatek’s dominance on Parisian clay at the French Open. Known for her powerful play, Sabalenka has the ability to blow opponents away on any surface if she can eliminate inconsistencies in her game. Despite early losses in Dubai and Indian Wells, she showcased her big-hitting skills to retain her Australian Open crown earlier this year.

Sabalenka faced personal tragedy with the apparent suicide of her former boyfriend before the Miami Open, where she reached the third round. After a blip on clay in Stuttgart, she regained her form in Madrid, narrowly losing to Swiatek in a final that reignited her season. Sabalenka continued to build momentum in Rome despite illness and a lower back issue, ultimately falling to Swiatek again in the title clash.

The Belarusian had a stellar 2023 campaign, reaching the semi-finals at the French Open and Wimbledon before losing to Coco Gauff in the U.S. Open final. With consistent runs to the semi-finals or beyond in the last six majors, Sabalenka has proven herself as a force to be reckoned with on the biggest stages. However, she does not consider herself a favorite at the French Open, where Swiatek has won the last two titles.

Sabalenka is determined to challenge Swiatek and believes she has a chance to win, even though she prefers to see herself as the underdog. With her powerful game and resilient mindset, Sabalenka is a formidable opponent for any player on the tour. As she prepares to compete at the French Open, all eyes will be on Sabalenka as she aims to capture her second major title and solidify her status as one of the top players in women’s tennis.
