The Royal Academy of Management (RAM) recently concluded the second cohort of the Walis Programme in Muscat. This program is part of the National Initiative for the Development of Local Governance, a partnership between RAM and the Ministry of Interior. The main goal of the Walis Programme is to empower local leaders in the governorates to actively promote comprehensive and balanced local development. This initiative is in line with Oman’s efforts towards decentralization and the enhancement of governorates.

The Walis Programme is structured around five educational units, meticulously designed to cover various aspects of governance and leadership development. The program utilizes contemporary executive learning methods, integrating field visits, interactive lectures, workshops, and practical applications to complement the academic aspect of the program. Moreover, the program encourages engagement through dialogue sessions with specialists and leadership figures who have expertise in strategy, planning, and executive experiences. A key component of the program is the comprehensive review of national and international models that have had a significant impact on local development and economic diversification.

The Royal Academy of Management initiated the Walis Programme with 63 participants distributed among two cohorts. The primary objective of the program is to enhance the capabilities of local leaders in the governorates, thus contributing to the achievement of comprehensive and balanced local development. The program is aligned with Oman’s current and future direction towards administrative decentralization and the development of the governorates. By providing participants with the necessary knowledge and skills, the Walis Programme aims to facilitate a qualitative transformation in local governance and leadership, ultimately benefiting the communities in the governorates.

Overall, the Walis Programme serves as a platform for local leaders in Oman to gain valuable insights and knowledge in governance and leadership development. The program’s holistic approach, which includes a blend of academic learning and practical applications, equips participants with the tools needed to drive local development initiatives effectively. Through collaboration with experts and leaders in the field, participants can benefit from a wealth of experience and strategic thinking that can further enhance their leadership capabilities. As Oman continues to focus on decentralized governance and governorate development, programs like the Walis Programme play a significant role in nurturing a new generation of local leaders who are well-prepared to tackle the challenges of local development in a rapidly changing world.

In conclusion, the Walis Programme conducted by the Royal Academy of Management is a valuable initiative aimed at empowering local leaders in Oman’s governorates towards achieving comprehensive and balanced local development. With a focus on governance, leadership development, and strategic planning, the program equips participants with the knowledge and skills needed to drive meaningful change within their communities. Through a combination of educational units, interactive sessions, and exposure to national and international models, the programme fosters a holistic approach to leadership development. By investing in the capabilities of local leaders, Oman is taking a step towards decentralized governance and sustainable development, paving the way for a brighter future for its governorates.
