Cristiano Ronaldo is set to make history by appearing in a record sixth European Championship with Portugal’s squad. The 39-year-old was included in the 26-man squad announced by coach Roberto Martínez on Tuesday. Ronaldo first played in the competition in 2004 and famously led Portugal to victory in 2016. Despite doubts about his future with the national team after the 2022 World Cup, Ronaldo remains a key player for Martinez.

Joining Ronaldo in the squad is fellow veteran Pepe, the 41-year-old Porto defender who will be making his fifth Euro appearance. However, there were some notable exclusions from the squad including Francisco Trincão, Pedro Gonçalves, and Ricardo Horta. Raphael Guerreiro was left out due to an ankle injury sustained while playing for Bayern Munich. Two surprising inclusions were forwards Pedro Neto of Wolverhampton and Francisco Conceição of Porto.

Portugal has been drawn into Group F alongside the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Georgia. The team will play three warm-up games in June against Finland, Croatia, and Ireland to prepare for the competition. The squad includes a mix of experienced players like Ronaldo and Pepe, as well as emerging talents such as Neto and Conceição.

The goalkeepers selected for the squad are Diogo Costa, José Sá, and Rui Patrício. In defense, players like João Cancelo, Nélson Semedo, and Rúben Dias will provide strength at the back. The midfield is stacked with talent including Bruno Fernandes, Otávio, and Bernardo Silva. The forward line features the likes of Diogo Jota, João Félix, and Rafael Leão alongside Ronaldo and the new additions Neto and Conceição.

Portugal will be looking to defend their title and add to their success in European competitions. With a strong squad featuring a mix of experienced veterans and promising young players, the team will be a formidable force to contend with in the tournament. Ronaldo’s presence adds a level of star power and leadership that could prove crucial in Portugal’s quest for another trophy. As the competition approaches, fans will eagerly await the performances of Ronaldo and his teammates on the European stage.

In conclusion, Cristiano Ronaldo’s inclusion in Portugal’s squad for the European Championship marks a significant moment in his illustrious career. With a record sixth appearance at the tournament, Ronaldo continues to showcase his enduring quality and commitment to representing his country. Alongside other experienced players like Pepe, Ronaldo will lead a talented squad that includes new additions like Pedro Neto and Francisco Conceição. As Portugal prepares for the competition, fans can expect an exciting and competitive team that will be aiming for success on the European stage. Ronaldo’s legacy in the sport is secure, and his presence at the Euros will only add to his status as one of the greatest footballers of all time.
