AS Roma have reached an agreement with Al-Hilal for the transfer of Saud Abdulhamid, making him the first Saudi player in Serie A. The deal is set at €2.5 million, with potential add-ons that could increase the value to €3 million. Abdulhamid, a 25-year-old right-back, is expected to undergo a medical in Rome on Monday to finalize the move.

Abdulhamid has represented Saudi Arabia at the senior level with 26 caps and was a key player in their squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. His standout performance in Saudi Arabia’s victory over Argentina during the tournament highlighted his talent and potential. This transfer marks a significant milestone for Saudi football as Abdulhamid breaks into one of the top leagues in Europe.

Following Abdulhamid’s departure, Al-Hilal are eyeing Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo as a potential replacement. Cancelo, who has reportedly fallen out of favor at City, could be the next target for the Saudi Pro League giants. Al-Hilal’s pursuit of Cancelo showcases their ambition to strengthen their squad and compete at the highest level.

The agreement between AS Roma and Al-Hilal reflects the growing international talent pool in Serie A. By signing Abdulhamid, Roma are not only adding quality to their squad but also diversifying their roster with a player from a non-traditional footballing nation. This move highlights the global appeal of Italian football and the willingness of clubs to explore new markets for talent.

Abdulhamid’s transfer to Roma could open up doors for other Saudi players looking to play in top European leagues. His success in Serie A could pave the way for more players from the Middle East to showcase their skills on a bigger stage. This move is not only significant for Abdulhamid personally but also for the development of football in Saudi Arabia and the wider region.

Overall, the transfer of Saud Abdulhamid to AS Roma signifies a new chapter in his career and a significant moment for Saudi football. As he prepares to make history in Serie A, all eyes will be on his performance and impact on the pitch. With Al-Hilal eyeing Cancelo as a replacement, the transfer market continues to be active with clubs looking to strengthen their squads for the upcoming season. Abdulhamid’s journey to Roma is not just a move for himself but a step forward for Saudi football on the global stage.
