India’s captain Rohit Sharma expressed his pride in his team’s performance after battling back from their lowest home total of 46 in the first Test against New Zealand. Despite ultimately suffering an eight-wicket defeat, Rohit commended his team for their fighting spirit. New Zealand successfully chased down a target of 107 to secure their first Test win in India since 1988. India’s bowlers were unable to contain the opposition in the first innings, with New Zealand posting 402 and taking a significant lead of 356 runs.

In response, India staged a remarkable comeback in their second innings, with Sarfaraz Khan scoring 150 runs and Rishabh Pant falling just short of a century with 99 runs. This strong batting performance allowed India to post a total of 462, putting them back in contention despite the significant deficit. Rohit Sharma highlighted the team’s resilience and belief in their abilities throughout the match, emphasizing their refusal to give up easily. Despite the initial setback, Rohit praised his team’s performance, particularly in the second innings.

New Zealand captain Tom Latham acknowledged India’s fighting spirit and expected a strong response from the home team following their first-innings collapse. Latham commended India for posing tough challenges and pushing New Zealand throughout the match. While India suffered their second home Test defeat of the year, Rohit Sharma remained optimistic about his team’s ability to bounce back, citing previous instances of overcoming setbacks. Looking ahead to the next two matches, Rohit emphasized the importance of focusing on their game plan and executing it effectively to secure victory.

The upcoming second Test in Pune and third Test in Mumbai present opportunities for India to regroup and come back stronger. The team’s mindset of never giving up easily and constantly pushing themselves to achieve desired results will be crucial in the remaining matches against New Zealand. Despite the challenges faced in the first Test, Rohit Sharma’s leadership and the team’s determination will play key roles in their quest for redemption. The Indian team’s ability to learn from their mistakes, adapt to changing conditions, and maintain a positive mindset will be essential in their pursuit of success in the upcoming matches.
