India’s captain Rohit Sharma expressed disappointment in his team’s 3-0 Test drubbing by New Zealand in a recent series. The defeat marked a career “low point” for Rohit, who took responsibility for the losses. The hosts were unable to chase down 147 runs in the final Test and were all out for 121, leading to their second series whitewash at home. Rohit acknowledged his own shortcomings as a leader and a batsman, vowing to improve in the upcoming Australia tour.

India’s next challenge will be a five-Test series against Australia, starting on November 22 in Perth. Despite the tough competition ahead, Rohit remains optimistic, drawing confidence from India’s previous Test tours to Australia where they secured victories. With a focus on redemption, Rohit highlighted the importance of the Australia series and the need for a strong performance to regain their position in the World Test Championship table.

The pressure is on India to secure four wins in Australia to stay in contention for the final at Lord’s next year. Rohit’s own form has raised concerns, as he struggled in the series against New Zealand, scoring only 1 run from six innings. Star batsman Virat Kohli also faced difficulties, with only one fifty and four single-digit scores in the series. Despite these challenges, Rohit emphasized the need to look ahead and correct their mistakes, focusing on the upcoming series as an opportunity to make a strong comeback.

Rohit’s availability for the first two matches in Australia remains uncertain due to “personal reasons”, according to media reports. While he expressed uncertainty about his participation in the opening match, Rohit remains hopeful and is keeping his options open. As India prepares for the tough battles ahead, Rohit’s leadership will be crucial in guiding the team towards a successful campaign in Australia. With a determination to bounce back from the recent setbacks, India will be looking to deliver a strong performance and showcase their resilience in the upcoming series.
