Tracy Reynolds, Consul-General of Canada to the UAE, emphasized the significance of high-quality early childhood education in shaping individuals into ‘better citizens’. He noted that education is not just a means to earn money but rather a way to contribute positively to society. Reynolds highlighted the value of a university education, whether in STEM fields or traditional humanities, as a tool for personal growth and understanding of the world. Encouraging students to explore diverse career options, he commended Khaleej Times for organizing the KT UniExpo for the sixth year.

Coming from a family rooted in education, Reynolds praised the efforts of Khaleej Times in supporting post-secondary education and providing opportunities for young adults in Dubai to explore their future educational paths. He emphasized the importance of quality learning that promotes critical thinking, multiculturalism, and language skills. Reflecting on Canada’s commitment to education, Reynolds mentioned the significant number of international students studying in Canadian institutions annually, attesting to the country’s quality education system.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by educators in the digital age, Reynolds recognized the impact of social media and the internet on today’s youth. He highlighted the need for universities to adapt to the evolving needs of students and prepare them for a rapidly changing world. Despite the rise of online learning, Reynolds stressed the value of classroom experiences in building social connections and friendships. Education, he emphasized, is a powerful tool that opens doors to a broader understanding of the world and shapes individuals’ futures.

In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, online learning has gained popularity, but Reynolds believes that traditional classroom settings offer a more enriching experience. He emphasized the importance of interpersonal interactions in a classroom environment, fostering connections and social skills beyond academic knowledge. Reynolds urged students to engage with their peers and society, highlighting the holistic benefits of education beyond acquiring knowledge. Education, he reiterated, plays a crucial role in empowering youth and shaping the future generation of leaders and citizens.
