The Ministry of Energy and Minerals recently organized a forum in Dhofar Governorate to discuss investment opportunities, current and future projects, and ways to enhance community partnerships with local companies. The forum was opened by HH Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, and included discussions on the latest developments in the oil, gas, renewable energy, and green hydrogen sectors. Mohsin Hamad Al Hadhrami, Undersecretary of the Ministry, highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to developing the energy and minerals sector in a way that optimizes natural resources and ensures safety. Al Hadhrami also discussed achievements in the oil and gas sectors, with daily oil production at 1.05 million barrels and a 4 percent increase in gas production. The minerals sector, particularly in Dhofar Governorate, saw significant growth, with over 13 million tons of limestone produced and 11 million tons of gypsum exported in 2024.

During the forum, three visual presentations were given, focusing on major projects and developments in vital sectors. Eng. Saud Khamis Al Mahrouqi, Director General of Minerals, provided a detailed presentation on efforts to enhance the exploitation of mineral resources in Oman. He highlighted Dhofar Governorate’s abundance of limestone and gypsum, with exports of gypsum reaching 11 million tons in 2023. This has strengthened Oman’s position as a leading global supplier of raw materials. The forum aimed to explore ways to optimize the use of mineral resources and address challenges facing the energy and minerals sectors in Oman.

The forum’s discussions also included ways to strengthen community partnerships with local companies and enhance investment opportunities in Dhofar Governorate. Participants explored strategies to maximize the use of mineral resources, particularly limestone and gypsum, and discussed potential projects in the oil, gas, renewable energy, and green hydrogen sectors. The forum served as a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing among industry stakeholders, government officials, and local communities in Dhofar Governorate.

The Ministry of Energy and Minerals is committed to further developing the energy and minerals sector in Oman to ensure sustainable growth and resource optimization. By promoting investment opportunities, enhancing community partnerships, and addressing challenges in the sector, the Ministry aims to drive economic development and create job opportunities in Dhofar Governorate.
